Hello again and welcome to my personal music thread where I present to you my original works along with some pieces of information on each tune. Since I'm still kinda new to composing, most of my songs are relatively simplistic. However, I'm happy about every piece of constructive criticism and piece of advice you can offer. I only ask you to be honest about what you think about my music, okay? :)

Alright, so, without further ado, let's get to some of my tunes!

"Nightmare"

Hard to believe that this song is the result of just me playing around with some synth instruments, huh? Anyway, as the title suggests, this song is about bad dreams. Maybe a dream sequence in a game in a strange and distorted kind of world...?

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/nightmare

"Objection!"

This one was one of my first pieces I ever (seriously) composed. It was a request from one of my friends who wanted a "Phoenix Wright-style Objection theme". Well, and this is what he got.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/objection-original-tune

"Forest Sanctuary"

One of my more recent songs. I must say, I'm quite proud of this one. It is very simplistic but I managed to capture what I wanted to capture - a smooth and soothing kind of song. Pan Flutes as leading melody instrument, some French Horns to back that up and a Marimba, a Bassoon and Pizzicato Strings with a repeating pattern in the background.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/forest-sanctuary-original-tune

"Machine Gone Mad"

The creating process of this one was quite interesting. Originally, I wanted to write a point-and-click-adventure-style riddle theme. Something similar to the puzzle themes of the Professor Layton games. However, I ended up with something completely different. "Machine Gone Mad" is the type of song that plays in some kind of futuristic research facility. At least, that's what I think it sounds like.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/machine-gone-mad-original-tune

"Halspark Boss Battle"

And this is the corresponding boss theme to "Machine Gone Mad". Basically, this is the gone-mad machine charging at the heroes. This one's also my first boss theme I ever created and it will be featured on a collaborative album with my friend, TheWeirdoMaxim.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/halspark-boss-battle-original-tune

"Confronting Evil"

I think the name says it all. This one's supposed to be the main theme of a villain. I could also imagine it as some sort of final dungeon theme as well. Basically it's supposed to build up to a final confrontation with the villain.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/confronting-evil-orignal-tune

"Fighting Madness"

I've made this one just yesterday. I thought I needed a regular battle theme to go with the boss theme I composed. The result was "Fighting Madness" which is still very simplistic but I'm quite fond of it. The only thing I'm not all to happy with is that it loops too soon...

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/fighting-madness-original-tune

"Victory!"

Don't really have much to say about this one except that it's my first try of combining synth instruments and classic instruments. Other than that it's a pretty simple victory theme to the battle themes I composed so far.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/victory-original-tune

Alright, that's all for now. I will be updating this thread once I've finished some more songs.

If you want to use one of my songs for your game or the like, just shoot me a PM and we'll work something out. :)

Alright, got a little update today featuring two songs. Two "first tries" actually.

"Sacred Jungle"

It's a percussion-only song. I tried to get a feel for percussion with this one. Basically, I combined four different percussion sets, have one of them play a "melody" of sorts while the other three keep looping. I don't have that much experience working with percussion and this one is quite simplistic.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/sacred-jungle-original-tune

"Peaceful Village"

Another "first try" for me. This is my take on something more upbeat and happy. If you couldn't tell from the songs I have posted so far, happy is not exactly my specialty. "Peaceful Village" here, is my first happy song and, in fact, my first town theme. If it sounds a little familiar to you, the inspiration for this song was "Outset Island" from Wind Waker.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/peaceful-village-original-tune

That's it for now. Maybe you want to share some thoughts with me about my songs. Any feedback would be nice since I'm still learning. :)

Alright, huge update! "Huge" meaning four brand new songs by yours truly. And yes, my song titles are getting more sophisticated. I'm aiming for a Tales-of-style soundtrack naming system: :D

"A City that Lies in Twilight"

Speaking of "Tales of"... I have played Xillia 2 recently and I really like the jazzy themes they got going on in that. These songs inspired me to start working more with my favorite instrument, the saxophone. So again, this is another "first try". :)

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/a-city-that-lies-in-twilight

"Desperate Escape"

I found a midi file on my old computer. That file was what eventually became this song. I must admit, I'm quite surprised what I've been able to make of an almost three year old midi.

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/desperate-escape

"The Impediment"

Third battle theme I've composed so far and my second boss theme. This one sounds a little more boss-y... boss-ish... than my first one, in my opinion. I still have to practice openings though. :D

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/the-impediment-boss-battle

"Taking an Effort for the Future" (most sophisticated title I came up with so far! XD)

This one... I have no idea what it is. I'm quite fond of it though. I was supposed to write a "final city" theme for the collab album I have in the works with Theweirdomaxim. A theme that sounds mysterious and eerie in a way... Yeah, didn't work out that much. Instead I came up with this one - a futuristic city-dungeon-crossover-song-thing. :D

https://soundcloud.com/king-madness/taking-an-effort-for-the-future

And that's all folks! ... For now anyway. Feedback and opinions appreciated. :)

Yay~! Two more songs and two more battle themes. I seem to be obsessed with those. Maybe I should try to compose something else for a change... Nah, battle themes are fine! :D

"Launch at the Enemy"

Just finished this one today. Well, I also started it today, so... Anyway, as I said, another battle theme. A "normal" battle theme, no boss theme this time. And no synth instruments either (except for the bass but who cares XD). I'm not so sure though if it's not "too epic" to be a regular battle theme. Especially when compared to the other battle themes I've made so far. (And how often did I write "battle theme" in this description...?)

"A Desperate Attempt"

I've already posted this in the feedback forum but for the sake of consistency I want it to be here as well. And besides, not everyone's looking into the feedback forum, right? So... this one is, I guess, the corresponding boss battle theme to "Launch at the Enemy". I'm definitely getting better with the intros and I'm getting better at working without synth instruments. Although I might change the title of either this one or "Desperate Escape". Can't have too much desperation in my titles. :D

And, as always, feedback, opinions, cake and cookies and stuff appreciated. If you want to use one of my songs, send me a PM! :)

Alright, update time, everyone! It's been a long time since I've updated this thread and that's mainly because I've been writing music for a radio play of the podcast I'm part of but we don't want the soundtrack to be published yet. :)

Here's some spoiler-free music I made in the last few days instead.

"Girl from Far Away ~ Noyemi"

Yes, that Noyemi. This one was a (late) birthday present for her and is meant to be a character theme. I've been experimenting with a more jazzy style and this is what came out.

"Where the Bones of Ancient Kings Reside"

Weird title, I know. But it still sounds better than a generic "Desert Temple" or "Desert Grave", doesn't it? Anyway, this one is one of my first tries at an oriental style. It might still be a little simple but I think I got the style down pretty well.

Time for a little update with something I haven't done yet. Actually two things I haven't done yet. One of which is posting a piece that's actually not done yet, but work in progress. The other one's the song itself. I decided that I should try and compose something more peaceful more often and since I'm not that familiar with that kind of music I wanted to get a little feedback in, if you don't mind. I do think, however, that what I have so far is pretty solid. What do you think? :)

Very good! I like your work a lot, keep practicing and refining it. Now, i'm no expert on music, so this is just my opinions:

'Peaceful Village' kinda through me for a loop, though, because I kept expecting 'Outset Island' after the introduction.

'Sleep, my love' sounds like a Professor Layton styled mystery theme, in my opinion, and it is relatively peaceful. I think it's very good.

'Desperate Attempt', 'Where the Bones of Ancient Kings Reside' were some of my personal favorites, though I didn't listen to them all. the latter had a real good Indiana Jones style to it!

Little update here since I finished a couple of new songs. One today, the other one some time ago. :)

"Resume Game?"

This is a pause theme in the style of Banjo-Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope I made as a fan soundtrack for Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to Rareware's most popular franchise.

"Humid Hollow"

Another fan soundtrack for Yooka-Laylee. Yes, that game's far from being released I know, but it's been quite inspiring to me nonetheless as you can hear. And I think I'm getting better at composing proper intros. :D

Update time! Got two songs for you today. I also have a WIP that's been sitting on my SoundCloud for weeks but I'll post that here once it's finished. :D

"Fight, My Love"

Yes, the similarity to "Sleep, My Love" is intended because this battle theme uses parts of the melody from that exact song. I wanted to have a more dark and sombre sound for this battle theme to kinda put it in contrast to my other battle themes.

"A Wind that Whispers of Death"

This song is the direct result of me fooling around in Garageband for one day. And I gotta say, for what it is (a miserable little pile of loops XD) it's quite good. At least I like it. :)

P.S. This song also has a "big sister" of sorts with extra guitar amps. I removed the guitar because I ultimately decided that it sounds better that way. :D

(not sure if this counts as advertising; I just wanted to give you guys a little heads-up)

*clears throat* Ladies and Gentlemen, you can now also find my work on Bandcamp. Yes, I released my very first album with seven - count 'em - seven songs that I have not yet released otherwise. And yes, I am planning to release more of my work on Bandcamp in the future.

Here's a little preview of what you can expect. :)

Man... I've been neglecting this thread for over a month now and I have three soundtracks I need to post here. So... UPDATE!

"Treacherous Temple"

So... I wanted to compose a Zelda-style dungeon/temple theme but since I didn't really anticipate what those theme actually sound like in Zelda games I just came up with something that's at least somewhat suitable for a dungeon or temple. :D

"Calamity Rising"

Has that ever happened to you, fellow musicians? You plan to compose something and instead end up with something completely different? Well, that's what happened to me with this on. Originally, I wanted to compose something sad and tragic. But NOOO, instead I get a freaking haunted mansion theme that sounds like it's coming straight out of a Rareware game. XD

"Secret Experiments"

Okay, I have no idea what this is supposed to be other than a soundtrack I composed. I just sat down with nothing particular in mind, without a plan (if you want to know why, read above) and this is what I ended up with. Now, I like it don't get me wrong but... it still feels weird to have composed something without really knowing what it is...  :D

(why can only two Soundcloud links per post be embedded? this really sucks, guys... disturbs my OCD XD)

And that's it for this update. As per usual, you're free to leave any piece of advice, criticism, complaint etc. here. :)

And yet another update. XD

"Awakening"

This one I finished two days ago. It's supposed to be some sort of title theme or credits theme. Maybe you could also use it as an area of character theme but it definitely has a "credits vibe" to it. Oh, and this track is also a contest entry for the "Newgrounds Audio Underdogs Competition" - that's why I composed it in the first place. Let me hear what you think of it.  :)

Two weeks and this one track is all I got...? Yeah... that summer heat is draining me of my creativity. Anyway, update time!

"Strange Concoctions"

So this is basically a song I built around a melody that was stuck in my head. I decided to make it some sort of dungeon theme. I pictured a laboratory or a research facility writing this. It is fairly simple (like most, if not all, of my songs) but I think it does its job. I'm not too sure about that saxophone though...

Oh, and shoutout to my buddy A'skela who handled the mixing on this one and made it sound awesome anyway. XD

Again, time to not neglect this thread. Also known as: update time! And this time I got two new songs for you.

"Twilit Streets"

I did a little experiment with a more blues-ish style. This one started as the bass line which was actually a melody I was humming while taking a shower. I built the rest around the bass track accordingly and, well, ended up with this. :D

"Malicious Heart"

I pulled an all-nighter to finish this a few days ago just because I couldn't let it go and go to bed. Sometimes I have that. I think you can hear how tired I was when listening to the last track I added - the bassoon. It sounds a bit wonky but I ultimately decided to leave it that since I thought it fit surprisingly well. XD

I like the simplicity in your songs ~ You have your own style I see. Good job! (=

I think that's the first time someone likes my simplicity. I may have been composing for only three years but, yes, I think it's save to say that that simplicity seems to be my style. And that's only because I don't have the resources to make anything more complicated. :P

Anyway, thank you very much. :)

3 years is quite long for me. =P

Due to their simplicity ~ some of these songs could be used in some *kinda retro games* if you know what I mean. =)

I liked these more energetic ones (battle themes and such) =P And of course your "Objection!" =D

What program do you use?

It's not so much the program but my abilities (and the virtual instruments) that form the limitation for my work. At the moment I'm using Logic Pro X with its default instruments to compose. Some of my songs - like "Objection!" for example - have been made with FL Studio though.

For my virtual instruments I would like to get Native Instruments "Kontakt" library some time in the future. But that's something around 400€ and I'd need to save my money for that for quite some time to get that. :D

They normally have great discounts throughout the year, that cut it down VERY nicely :)

They do? Guess I have to be on the lookout for those then. Good to know, thanks Jonnie. :)

*sings* Update time! Also known as time to not neglect your personal audio forum.

So, let's see what I got for you today...

"Feel the Beat and Ride the Rhythm"

Now, sometimes it's hard coming up with names, sometimes they just come to me. Like this one. This one is another on of the "melody stuck in my head that I made into a song" type. And in fact, I liked that melody so much this time that I decided to make this my own personal theme. It's not, like narcissistic dedicating something to himself, is it? XD

... Anyway, I could swear I have heard something like that melody before. But then again, I've listened to so many soundtracks that I shouldn't even be wondering anymore. :D

This person has been creative again. Yes, I may be playing Splatoon for seven hours a day but I still manage to "find" some time for composing. biggrin.gif

"Remains of a Kingdom"

Uhm... I'm not sure what to say about this one. This has to be the simplest of my most recent pieces. I had that piano melody floating around my computer for a few months and never really did anything with it. I added a few strings for extra gravity but it's still only a sketch in my opinion. Maybe I should've just left the piano melody on its own... I don't know. biggrin.gif

"Dim Lights on the Streets"

Ah, I love themes suited for an adventure-type of game. Mysterious sounding and all that. Guess I have played too much Ace Attorney recently. I'm getting influenced here! biggrin.gif

"Call of the War Drums"

This one is quite interesting. It's not your standard upbeat, fast battle theme. Instead it's aimed to be some sort of battle theme for a darker type of game. Think "horror" RPGs like Shadow Hears for example. Or the inspiration for this particular track, Koudelka. I have also been informed that this would fit as a dungeon+battle theme - so... no music switching for battle scenes.

Time to up the dates! :P

"Danger from the Stars"

I tried a combination of strings and synthesizer for this one. I really like those futuristic sounding tracks that combine classical instruments and the synthesizer. I think this one can be used in a variety of situations. I can see it as character theme, dungeon theme and as event theme. :D

"Rogue Technology ~ Boss Battle"

I got the weird feeling that this doesn't have enough OOMPH. I was trying to compose a (boss) battle theme that fits with "Danger from the Stars" and this is what I came up with. Another case of "I can't write intros for crap", in my opinion. I might rework this one in the future...

Well, I guess I'm on a roll with those "orchestral" tracks of mine. Here's two more. smile.gif

"Castle of the Fiends"
I just love the strings of this virtual orchestra. I figured I should combine the violin and the harpsichord, two of my favorite instruments to make a classical castle theme. By the way... composing is really easier when you actually know in what key you're composing. tongue.gif

"Great Ruler of the Dark"

I never finished this many soundtracks in this little time. I seem to have a creative spike of sorts... Anyway, this was kinda inspired by one of Nobuo Uematsu's soundtracks for "Fantasy Life" - at least the bassoon was anyway. smile.gif
