CrowTheAlmighty 27 Posted February 26, 2015 So is this type of battle do-able? Your character versus someone with an argument. The opponent will basically barrage you with their argument and at certain times, you can choose an item (Evidence or Profile) and counter it. If you get it wrong, a 'strike' is dealt to you. Certain number of wrong answers and you lose. Need more explaining or is this good?
SpookyMothman 361 Posted February 26, 2015 I know what you're getting at. It'll take a lot of eventing, but it's totally possible. I'm curious about how you plan for this to flow. Will it be the primary form of "combat"? Like where the skills you learn are all speech based? Would there be things outside of the conversation that might factor into your success? I really like the idea, but it would also need some kind of tension to it, as well as a way to tell how well you're doing.

I'm a person who tests many game ideas and this is for a Phoenix Wright / Danganronpa style game
cuongeke1 37 Posted February 26, 2015 (edited) Hmm... Sound not very interesting to me But i think it is possible, you put a common event into a skill / item which opening key item dialog, so.. you can check which item player select and if it's a wrong one, you deal HP Damage to all Party. Still, not very interesting, i think Edited February 26, 2015 by cuongeke1
LunarProxy 3 Posted February 26, 2015 I know I played a flash game about philosophy that has this very same idea, and it's done very well, imo. Socrates Jones, I'd recommend giving it a play for any ideas.
Whiona 310 Posted February 26, 2015 I was going to say that this sounds a lot like Ace Attorney or Danganronpa, and then you brought them both up. I would closely examine both of those titles because they executed this style of "combat" very well. I'm not saying you should make a carbon copy of those games, of course, but they're a good starting point. I guess one thing to consider is whether it will be more of a timed or even action-oriented system like in Danganronpa (eg. you have to aim and fire the evidence bullet at the correct time) or if the player will have all the time in the world to figure out the answer like in Ace Attorney. The former would probably be harder to do in RPG Maker, but I think it would still be possible with lots of eventing. If you go with the latter, then the correct evidence/profile should be harder to figure out so that the game remains challenging.
Kayzee 4,032 Posted February 26, 2015 Reminds me of Phoenix Wright actually. All that high energy court room drama where you practically battle your enemy with your words... you even have an HP bar!

Oh yes, believe me, I know it would be hard but I still want to experiment
+ TBWCS 953 Posted March 2, 2015 How will they barrage you with an argument? Does it show some question on the screen? Or a full event of you choosing some choices and if you it right or wrong you'll be damaged? Are these evidences or proofs the items in your inventory? What are the other mechanics of the game in terms of damaging? Does it come by How many times or does it come by how many HP you have left?
