MJS4745 3 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Hey, I'm not sure I have this in the the right place, but I'm hoping I do. Anyway, I was wondering: I've seen the tutorial about the anatomy of an autotile, which got me to wondering if there was a similar explanation on creating building autotiles. I've looked online and haven't seen one, though this could be to poor searching or wrong wording. Anyway, if someone knows the layout of the building autotiles so it is easier to understand how to create the building and roof tiles like the did with the ground tiles, it'd be nice to see a tutorial on it. I have a vague Idea that the top and bottom of a building tile(which is 64 x 128 I believe, and comes 8 across[512 width] by 2 down[256 height]) is similar to the bottom of the anatomy of an autotile(where it's divided into 16x16 segments). If someone could either confirm this, or perhaps show a graphic that explains the layout and how it works, that would be great. Below is a very rudimentary building tile, both the walls and the roof, as an example of what I am talking about. Edited April 14, 2015 by MJS4745
StrayBalloon 19 Posted April 17, 2015 What I do to figure out the differences or inner workings of a certain tileset is just open one of the defaults into an image manipulator and look it over. We already know that if you made that example picture 3 tiles wide that the middle segment of the image should not have the vertical dark blue trim that the leading edges will have. So it'll work similarly to how any auto tile would. I'm surprised there aren't any youtubes videos about this. Here's an example picture from the resource standard about the layout of autotiles. MJS4745 3 Posted April 20, 2015 Yeah, I knew about those. And I was making an educated guess about building tiles that the top and bottom of the Building tiles would be constructed like the C segment above, for both roof and wall. With the outer 16 pixels forming the edges and corners and the center piece forming the filler. This is what I was basing my understanding for building autotiles on, but I was unsure if this was accurate so I was hoping to confirm it.
