I'm new and I need HELP.

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody. I'm new in the community and new using RPG maker vx ace. I'm making my first game (an horror game) and I need help with something because I'm really new with everything.

1. How can I put something over other? Like, a book over a table. When I try to do this, the table disappears and is replaced by the book. I don't want this. I want the book to be over the table.

2. Where can I find some good horror resources for my game? Like tilesets, music, faces...

3. Can someone give me the link or something of a tutorial of how to put more than one person in the room? Like, rn in my game my character is going to be alone but later I would like to put another character with her.

4. Can someone tell me a character generator and face generator that work on vx ace and are good?

I think that's all for now. My main concern is how to put something over other thing like a table. I know I sound stupid, but I never made a game before.

Also, sorry for my bad english.

1. You can use parallax mapping/overlay mapping (same thing) to create the image of "book ovet table". You could also use any image editor like Gimp or Photoshop to copy and paste the book onto the table. There are tutorials of this process in the 'General RM Tutorials' section of this forum. Just check the 'Master List'.

2. This forum also has a nice section that showcases resources people have made and resource packs that have been releases. That would be a good place to look for your resources. Or you could go to a search engine and look around for horror resource packs of tilesets.

3. For basic RMVXA commands and events you can find MANY beginners tutorials on youtube. Just type in "rpg maker vx ace tutorials" and you will see dozens of videos pop up.

4. Rpg Maker VX Ace comes with a built-in face and sprite generator. Its up in the taskbar by the 'database' and 'script editor' buttons.

Also, 1. If you're using the default tiles or autotiles--there are autotile tables that act like "ground" layers that you can place items on. :)

1) Don't use the tables on Tab B, C or D. Use the auto-tile tables on tab A when putting them down; they're close to the top of the tileset. Then you can put any object on tab B, C and above on top of it, since those objects don't overwrite stuff on the A layer.

2) I have tons of resources for horror, but I've used Google and the Resource Showcase thread to hunt it all down and make a detailed list and folder of fully credited resources. Google is your friend; it's so, so very useful and it won't take long at all to pick up tilesets and objects for horror. There are also DLC packs you can buy from the main RPG Maker website, or on Steam if that's where you bought RPG Maker.

3) Again, Google is great. There's also a Tutorial forum section in these forums here with an organized sticky that gives you a list of all basic tutorials. What you're requesting is the very, very, very basics--you just need to learn eventing, for which this community provides many guides. An NPC or other character on your screen is typically an event with a character sprite for its graphic.

4) If you're just starting out, brand new, simply use the built-in generator in RPG Maker VX Ace. Once you get the hang of things--well, there's another list of off-site resources stickied in these forums too. Explore a bit; I know you're excited to just hunker down and make a game, but you'll probably have to spend a lot of time outside the program researching and resource gathering on your own, as we all must.
