the shops you should remove the outside of the building and make it black so it borders it so it won't look so confusing.

honestly there's not a lot for me to say. um the town map where the bridge crosses the water you can place the bridge by holding  shift  it will place the bridge over the water. still looks a thousand times better than what i made in the first 2 weeks of using rpgmaker GL

The buildings from the outside look pretty good,  maybe add some variety too them. The ground looks a little bare, add some tall grass, shrubs, try to make it look natural. That being said I don't like the look of all those trees in the upper right. They look too square. Try to make it flow more.

follow Asura's advice and make the inside's border black. that way it doesn't seem like the building's walls are 10 feet thick. Pretty good for your first time!

Same idea as Frankstallone for the shop/restaurant. You want some contrast with the roof/floor tiles. Remove so their all black or use some contrasting tiles.

A couple notes:

The item shop could use a couple windows.

The potted plants in the restaurant look like they are floating in mid air. Put them on a counter or use larger potted plants. I'm pretty sure the latter will require some DLC.

One other the "$other" graphics have some animated water for the top and bottom of the waterfall.Try adding them and see if you like how it looks. Just an aesthetic option. Not really necessary.

The shots look pretty good overall, especially the town. The buildings are well spaced, and the map looks dynamic.

I see everyone gave you really good advice.

so...

*put stuff that everybody above said here*

The left part of village looks a little bit 'square', I would suggest to make it more 'dynamic' (less square) and add some details ~

anyway it looks really good as for the 'first' maps!

It definitely looks like you have a good hand at basic mapping, My only suggestion would be to do some research on terrain and terrain variation so you make your landscape look and feel a bit more natural. This will help break up the linearity and add some visual scaling to your map that makes it feel more dynamic and engaging to the player.

I'm very much into mapping with the RTP and I personally think the RTP is great, but you have to remember a few basics to help break up monotony or repetitiveness. A little bit of color variation and randomness of asset placement can greatly improve an area.

I decided to take a small chunk of your map and redo it just to help you understand what I mean, hope you don't mind :P And I hope it helps :D

Hey there! Great work. Just like the others have said, it definitely does seem like you have a solid grasp at the basics of mapping.
Let's take that a bit further.

As a general rule of thumb, I personally don't like to use the "large group of tree" tiles to fill in spaces like you've got here:

But if you absolutely must use the "large group of tree" tiles, try using them in conjunction with other tiles live I've got here:
