Saeryen 299 Posted November 22, 2015 Hey there, I was wondering if you wanted me to touch up the heart graphic a little. I noticed it looks a bit 'fuzzy' on certain tiles. EDIT: BTW, my profile pic now is supposed to be a cross between a chocobo and a turkey... I think it looks just fine. Your HP bar is awesome, culai.
lonequeso 1,921 Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) Who says you can't make a good looking map with default assets? Well that and recolors. It certainly has a fantastical feel to it. I kinda want to see even more flora on some of those big patches of empty grass. A couple weeds; maybe a few lonely trees. Are the pits traps someone placed or are they more like sinkholes? I was thinking patches of leaves would look more natural than the dark patches. Like someone dug a pit and covered it with leaves because they're a jerk Did you say, PUZZLES?! I love games with lots of puzzles. I've gotten pretty good at creating them. If you need ideas or help with 'em, feel free to ask. Rikifive 3,411 Posted November 23, 2015 A song? I'm totally interested in your music and credits song. Can't wait to hear these! =3
Saeryen 299 Posted November 26, 2015 I have something to share with you... Character theme songs! Playlist here Katrina's theme song is also the main theme, and all the three main characters' themes are repeated in different tracks (though arranged differently). Culai 51 Posted November 26, 2015 Wow they all sound really good saeryensong!
Skysagi 219 Posted November 26, 2015 Geez... I've listened to all of these songs, they are great! I didn't know that a song could be so cute :3
Rikifive 3,411 Posted November 26, 2015 I think these soft songs will fit your game's cute theme. Are they your first songs or you had some experience already? =
Saeryen 299 Posted November 26, 2015 Katrina's, Maia's and Aretia's themes are made with a different program than the others (because I took a college class where I could access it). They were originally for another game idea I had, but I decided to use them since I loved the songs so much. I started to write music with the MuseScore program kind of early on, and then I could use the Protools in college, which I LOVED. So I guess I could say these are both somewhat new and experienced. Thank you all for the wonderful comments!
Saeryen 299 Posted December 6, 2015 I think I can now officially present...the official blog. http://cattylands.tumblr.com/ It looks nice now, and has a post detailing characters and setting, as well as basic synopsis.
Saeryen 299 Posted December 10, 2015 So, here I have a town spotlight to share, now that its map is complete! (The same thing is posted on my blog) Cattilian is the only town on the continent of Cattil. It is more or less at the center of the Catty Lands, and is the capital city. (It's a picture) Beyond the north gates of the city lies the queen’s castle, where the Cat Queen of Spades currently lives. The Cattil River flows into Cattilian’s pond. Being the capital, Cattilian is home to richer, higher-class people then some other towns. Another distinct mark of the town is the water reservior, where most of the people get their water.
Culai 51 Posted December 11, 2015 You know, maybe the trees are a little, too bright? I get the style you were going for but... maybe a slightly darker shade.
Rikifive 3,411 Posted December 11, 2015 You know, maybe the trees are a little, too bright? I get the style you were going for but... maybe a slightly darker shade. ~or brighter other things and make the most colorful game in history. =3
+ Takeo212 1,079 Posted December 11, 2015 The bright pink trees lost there "detail" with the brightness increment so they look bright and just, meh. I recommend the "make it a little darker" to match the contrast of the other trees, as well as bring back that little bit of detail they have with their shading and such. Also, I imagine them to be hurtful on the eyes if you played the game long enough and there was alot of them. Overall though, I think the progress here looks pretty neat
Saeryen 299 Posted December 11, 2015 Thanks Takeo! The thing about the tree shade is that it took FOREVER to get them to a perfect shade of pink. At first they were really deep, dark pink and when I asked for feedback on the map people thought it was oversaturated. This is what it looked like before. I thought those dark trees over and decided that it didn't suit the world, so I changed them, and even asked for help on these particular ones.
lonequeso 1,921 Posted December 11, 2015 Those previous ones are on the line between pink and purple. I like the lighter, cotton candy ones. I like them the way they are. Pink trees kind of naturally stand out. But, If they end up causing some eye strain it'd be a good idea to tweak them.
Culai 51 Posted December 12, 2015 The brighter ones are definetly better than the darker ones, but I dunno, I still think, like lonequeso said, maybe tweak them a bit.
Rikifive 3,411 Posted December 12, 2015 Also, I imagine them to be hurtful on the eyes if you played the game long enough and there was alot of them. I was looking on them for few minutes and my eyes were crashing already. (I have brightness of the monitor set to high) =3 XD =3 But they are cute and shiny! =3 I like the bright ones, but I agree, they could be tweaked a little, because you'll be probably getting many complaints about that. =P
Saeryen 299 Posted December 13, 2015 What about these?
lonequeso 1,921 Posted December 13, 2015 Seeing the trees at the in-game zoom, I can see get why people's eyes were straining. As a static image they still look a bit bright. I don't think it will be that bad in-game. The screen will be scrolling then and that motion, and any animation on screen will help off set it. I'd have to run around a level for a bit to be sure though. I do have one suggestion if you feel they're still too bright. Making them darker isn't going to fix much. The intensity comes from the color saturation. If you made them more of a pastel pink, they'll be far less intense. They'll look just like cotton candy, too. Here my suggestion. Run around the map you made for a few minutes with the trees as they are. If you feel your eyes are beginning to strain after just a few minutes of exposure, make them pastel pink.
Saeryen 299 Posted December 15, 2015 Hmm, I'll look into that later, right now I'm trying to just do some plot in the game (I figure I'll add in some extra gameplay and tweak the cutscenes once they're all done, well, once this batch is done). In the meantime, I've updated the first post with eight new screencaps! (The old ones are gone due to changes in mapping) Please tell me what you think if you have the time and desire. lonequeso 1,921 Posted December 15, 2015 You seem to really like water. Both solid and liquid Even though I love the color, the text boxes look a bit bright. Why do you like hurting our eyes so much? It looks good in the darker screens. You may want to use a different color for nigh scenes. I'm sure there's some sorta script snippet that'll let you change it in-game. Speaking of, the pink trees in the last screen look just right. That compliments the blue trees nicely. Color Theory, ftw! With the first screen, the ceiling and the stone columns don't go well with the wall and floor tiles. I think if you added a little bit of a blue hue to the walls they'd compliment the floor nicely. The floors are more aqua green so a lightly saturated blue hue should work nicely. It would go well with the water and waterfall too. You may want to go with different tiles for the ceiling and stone pillars altogether. The fourth screen down could use some more detail in the grass. Just a few extra plant/weed tiles to break up the space. With the sixth one down, did you recolor the crops or is that how they look with the window tint? They look a little too blue to me. The more I look at your work, the more I want to play your game. You seem to be progressing smoothly. Keep it up!
Saeryen 299 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) The text boxes were originally much more saturated, I made them lighter to appease people's eyesight. Yes, the crops are supposed to be blue. Thank you for the compliment lon! EDIT: Updated the credits and character descriptions to match the content on my blog.
