Opinions on color palette and style

Recommended Posts

So I was working on this before totally forgetting about it after switching to a new computer. I'm going to work on a new game but I'll more or less be doing the same thing with the visual assets so this time around I thought I'd ask what people thought about the style I'm using to avoid major overhauls later on. I'm mostly concerned with the palette.

I've recolored the protagonist's room several times with some popular palettes found in the internet but they just don't feel right. I'm leaning towards the first but I'm thinking that an entire game with just those colors wouldn't do especially during scenes that should be sort of striking or moving. If those don't work, I'm also thinking I should just do everything in monochrome and hope to get help from someone who knows colors and be willing to recolor everything.

There's also the dithering I've found. I want to use it all over since I'm comfortable with it but maybe some people find it odd or something.

So what do you guys think?

I like the first and the third, the second one looks a little bit weird.

The first is great & simple, while the third has more "energy". It depends on game style you're making.

I think the first ones is soft, relaxing and would make for a nice setting colour for any scene.

The second one's colours just scream "ugly, in your face and not attractive"

and the last one seems like a thermal radar is in motion, so it makes it look weird.

The first ones colours i think you could make use of in any setting, including emotional stuff. It has the mature colouring to it, and isn't in your face, and is just nice to look at.

If your using the same pallete for each area though, that doesn't mean you can only have beige walls :) Make a room or two blue with beige borders just to spice it up :)

I personally love that idea of having the same palette throughout. I'm horrible with colour choices too, so it seems one of us is smart enough at least xD

I like the first one, it may not exactly "pop" in your face for extremely high emotional times, but then again it's not like your setting's colors have to reflect the mood :) Especially with the flexibility of an interactive game, there are many more ways you can incorporate emotions without having a super saturated palette.

Thanks everyone, I think I will go with the first. Thanks for the suggestions as well, time to see how I can push it to its limits.

The first palette is simply GORGEOUS. It's tight and doesn't go in five directions at once, and that helps with keeping the setting together. It's a collected palette with amazing color choices, and I'm glad you decided to go with it.
