Does it need to be more pixelated?

Recommended Posts

I made this wardrobe, but I am worried its not pixel-a-rific enough to blend in with base resources:

This one is 32x64.  I brought up the default tiles for comparison and they seem more pixelated...

Any good photoshop tutorials on how to work in miniature for stuff like furniture, household items, etc.  with RPGMaker VX Ace as the target?

so it's 2 tiles wide and 4 tiles high.  The scale of it is too large to fit in with the default resources.  you may need to scale it down to 16x32.

As for more pixels: yes, it could use some more noise on it.

32 * 64 is fine, I don't know what Brackev is talking about. One tile is 32px so your wardrobe would be 1 tile wide and 2 tiles high which is perfectly normal.

Yeah, he's right.

One tile is 32x32.

About pixelating - I don't know, I'm not good in RTP stuff, I'll do everything by myself. (mostly) so I'll have my own style. =P

But it looks good for me ~ perhaps pixelate it a little bit more.

Hey Bigcanoe,

I think in regards to pixel-work. I think it all depends on whether you are deciding to make your own entire tile-set or not.
If you are making your own set: All the tiles you make will be unique to your own design and that would mean that the image is fine.
If you are making it to blend in with the default RTP: It probably needs more pixelation.

If you want to make your picture blend in with the RTP then you may need to apply the style of the RTP to your work.

Hope that helps.

I recently experimented with a similar project and spent a long time scratching my head over how to improve my pieces of furniture.  Mine kept looking too washed out to me and the more I worked on the contrast the more I liked them.

If you want it to match the defaults more they are lighter on the bottom right of the top of the wardrobe, also the top edge of drawers and things are lighter than the bottoms, and there is more contrast on things like the handles, to make them look like they really go in.   Maybe also it would look more like natural wood if it were less symmetrical?

For me, it looks awesome!

I'm not using RTP stuff, so it's still hard to me to tell if that match the RPT style, but it's very good!

I definitely see wood grain now.  Before the texture looked more sheet-metally.  Looks much more three dimensional to me now.  Yay!
