Paralax Castle Main Room

Recommended Posts

Yo everyone, ;)

Wanted to get some opinions on a map I made, stuff I could add etc.

That big picture is of the family that lives there, let me know what you think.

Thanks

That picture is kinda off-place (Yeah, probably that's because of our perspective) but it's really cool!

Overall that map is tidy/neat/ordered (I don't know what word fits here well ~sorry for English=P ) and looks really good, I like it. =)

Perhaps adding a carpet on the floor would make it more *full*, but I don't know.

I think the mosiac idea is pretty cool actually. From our angle, it looks pretty weird, but I imagine in game, it'll look really nice.

My first thought however is, your shadows are everywhere. I look at your knight statues and they all have a different angle shadow. Most shadows would be facing the same way, but if the light is over head, it would be facing away from the light.

I'd suggest making the left statues' shadows face left, and the right statues' face right. It gives a beter feel of the lightning in the room.

However, besides what Riki said, I like the map you have :) Maybe even a dining table just to fill the void space.

Looks good imo :D

I think the problem everyone is having with the back wall is because its at least five tiles high yet everywhere else there is only two tiles between floor and ceiling.

I'm not a fan of the way you've made the light come in at different angles with those windows; it suggests the sun is in two places simultaneously. I guess you're trying to frame that sofa a bit but its just strange, particularly since the windows themselves are full of light, rather than having the light angled through them.

The stairs are done nicely but the carpets are incredibly inconsistent.

As others have said, there's just way too much free space on this map, particularly considering how the detail that is there is squashed together. Since you want to keep that center clear I'd recommend just reducing the size of the map a bit. You probably think this would make the map less grand but consider how this map is actually going to play, rather than how it looks in the editor; that empty centre is probably 17x13 by itself and would be entirely blank to the player.
