+ Lazzamore 54 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) The town of Auras'ton is an amazing mixture of ingenuity and poverty. The streets of the shore-town, a part of the city built on stilts over sandy shores and shallow waters, is made of large, dark timbers. Cabins floated out on the sea, as the city stretched out into piers. But most impressive of all is what looms overhead. One of the great wonders of the world, the Great Cliffs, stands for almost a mile into the sky and stretch seemingly forever in each direction. And hanging off of it is the cliff-town; a part of Auras'ton that hangs by giant chains attached to the cliff-side. Stairways and homes carved into or hanging from the cliffs climb all the way to the top. Tykronic constables march in the streets, Humans mostly, with the occasional Nymph. They strut about with their brown uniforms, with Tykrons banner hung over both shoulders. The red and gold banners, checkered with a griffin in each one, have come to represent the nation. Their white hats are particularly strange, being egg-shaped and flattened like fins. All the constables, it seems, are outsiders. The queen doesn't seem to trust edgelanders with policing themselves, so less and less are there Forestrian constables these days. 'These days' have been strange, haven't they? You must be getting cabin fever by now, having been stuck in this town since the Ministry of War declared a quarantine on it. No one in or out without permission of the ministries or the queen. The Ministry of war is all but cornering the Crow's Army, the thieves guild of Auras'ton that has been terrorizing the people of the Uplands Village, and this quarantine is going to let them do it. Rumors have spread fast about the Uplands village, the resort area that the rich northerners stay to enjoy the scenic everwood atop the cliffs, just a few miles south. The rumors say that the Village is flattened, burned to the ground with no survivors. To the military, though they would not admit it, these are more than rumors. Some of them have even seen the ruins first hand. The superstitious are calling it the Awakening of the Behemoth, a creature once worshiped by the heathen barbarians. Legend said it could burn down forests, call upon blizzards and slay armies. Constables stop and question everyone. Especially at the Chain Guild, an organization dedicated to promoting jobs and building up the community, but this one has long been suspected of housing, or even employing, members of the Crow's Army. Though that could just be the constables bias. After all, the guild houses many needy people. Edited August 8, 2015 by Lazzamore
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) Chu the Alchemist strode out from under a small bridge. He was around three feet tall, with a potbelly and a large hat shielding his yellow skin from the sun. He was soaking wet, as all River Sprites are. Chu was not a common sight around the area. River Sprites kept to themselves, living near the rivers (big surprise there) and the estuaries that led to the sea. They were known to be primitive to the point that many thought them little more than animals, though these individuals were mostly outsiders from the mainland. This was all too apparent with Chu. He wore almost no clothing whatsoever, unwilling to properly dress and having very little experience in this concept that people called 'nudity'. His kind did not wear clothing, and Chu would not mind, and in fact would prefer to keep to his cultural roots on the subject. But, getting nasty looks from the constables and stares of unbelief from the townspeople were enough to motivate him to conform to this new culture. So he tucked a rag he'd found into his belt, and it seemed enough to keep the people happy. Despite the lengthy explanation of Chu's dressing habits, this was not on the mind of the River Sprite. No, there were far more important things on his agenda. Getting into the town, mostly. He went up to the barred gate of Auras'ton, and knocked loudly. He pulled his hat down, looking up at the large, rickety gate, and waited for a reply of some kind. Edited August 8, 2015 by Inc_ndesc_nt
+ Lazzamore 54 Posted August 8, 2015 @Chu: Chu was probably surprised to see two Forestrians, judging by their immense bulk and height, wearing black cloaks leap over the wall. It is surprising how such heavy-looking creatures can do such acrobatics. The gate is swung open, with great ferocity and speed, and about seven brown-uniformed officers, six humans and a nymph, dashing as fast as they seem to be able to run. They run past Chu, almost trampling him, giving chase to the ones in black cloaks, into the forest. Beyond Chu is the interior of the town, a short street that stops at a stair well looking over the ledge. Large, intricate housing surrounds it. Before Chu has a chance to process this, the gates begin to close.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) Chu got up, dazed. The gate was creaking shut, and he smiled and walked through it, his small frame slipping past the wooden doors. Just as he entered, the gates slammed behind him, making him jump a little. He did not know if he was welcome in this town or not, but, the gate was open and the sun was shining in the sky, as though to welcome him in. Chu wondered if he was making a good decision. He unfastened a large bottle of alcoholic spirits from his belt, and tipped the burning liquid into his mouth. He thought it best to worry about the consequences of his actions another time. He had an opportunity, and he took it with glee. In the back of his alcohol filled mind, however, Chu wondered if he'd made a bad decision. AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 8, 2015 Alistair wanders around town and noticed a River sprite. 'What does a River sprite doing in here? I thought they never show themselves to anyone?' she said at the back of her mind. As she walked closer, she saw that the river sprite taking some sort of a potion into it's mouth. She then ignored the sprite and went on to find what she was looking for.
+ Lazzamore 54 Posted August 8, 2015 (edited) Chu and Alistair both are startled at a sudden, loud and obnoxious "HEY, KID!". Behind a police box there came a Nugling, an ugly creature from the north, in constable uniform. His ears, as huge as saucers, were the most noticeable. Never mind his black, beady eyes, or his fat brow, or even his protruding upper jaw. His bat-like nose sniffs the air as he raises his police baton with terribly slender fingers, almost as long as his arms. The shout was directed at Chu, the Officer seems to mistake Chu's small stature for youth, even though the Nugling wasn't too much taller. "Yeah, yew!!" He shouts at Chu after getting his attention, over-emphasizing his Y's. "What're yew doin' at the gate?!" he barks, walking quickly at Chu in a confrontational manner. + Lazzamore 54 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Alistair: Alistair was in the top of the cliffs, where the main offices of the ministries, the ministry of war, etc. are located. People in this town don't know that Alistair is a werewolf/vampire, to them she is human. So up on the cliff she does not stand out. Below, however, is a different story. The Forestrians don't seem to like humans here, they seem to represent the wealthier class. Which, coming from the west border, she is more well-off then the people here. Behind Alistair was the River Sprite, seemingly being harassed by a Nugling. the Superintendent came out, and began to sort it out. Then the gate opened, and the Nugling began dragging the River Sprite out. Chu: The Nugling raised his baton, seemingly surprised by Chu's mature voice. "Yeeah, yer doin' something wrong! Yer ain't supposed to be in 'ere!" he grabs Chu's arm harshly. Suddenly another officer speaks "Cool off, Durgle. Just open the gate and toss 'im. Ain't like it's gonna be the bust of the century." she said. Out of the Constabulary walked a human in a darker uniform and a hat with a gold rim. Durgle, the Nugling, deferred to her. "Superintendent! I caught a live one, tryin' to get in!" he said. She pulled the gate crank and it open surprisingly fast. Durgle began to drag Chu out. AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 9, 2015 As Alistair saw that the Nugling drag the River Sprite out, she went in front of them, "Is there any problem here good sir?" she asked the Nugling.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Chu took the opportunity to wrench himself free. "Yes, there's a problem!" He said, his voice full of anger and surprise. "The problem is there's this fine, hairy gentleman here saying that nobody's allowed in the town." Chu paused and took a long drink from his bottle of alcoholic spirits, and continued talking. "It's not safe outside here anymore. One of your kind's settlements...was it Uplands Village? It was blown to pieces. I saw it happen. It was your gods, Dry (Dry is a Water Sprite term referring to non-amphibious creatures)." Chu fingered the blue body paint on his stomach, and crossed his arms. "Whatever god that did it, it lived in the forest. It's not a good place to be for anybody, even my kind. There's not a whole lot of other places to go other than this town. I serve the good spirits of the water, but your gods seemingly don't approve. So you, Dry, you gonna let me in or not?" Chu said. "Because I ain't got anywhere else to go." + Lazzamore 54 Posted August 9, 2015 Chu and Alistair: Alistair might not have known about the Uplands Village, except through rumors. As Chu was saying that, a perturbed and a little shocked face came over Durgle and the Superintendent, as if to hush Chu as he was giving it away through intimidation. But Chu said it. Both of them looked at Chu angrily. They turn to Alistair; "This is official business of the queen." said the superintendent "This town has been quarantined, nobody in or out. Don't make us arrest you for obstruction of justice." she said firmly. Durgle grabbed Chu again "Let's go then!" he said, pulling Chu. Just then, seven more officers, accompanying a young human woman, rushed back into the gate. Two of the constables were mortally injured. The crowd overtook the scene and in the confusion of the moment Durgle lost his grip on Chu, as the officers, rushing forward, almost trampled them both. Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 10, 2015 After the dust cleared, Chu, feeling particularly battered, got up from the ground. He held his stomped head in one hand as he stumbled about. He looked around. It seemed that the offenders were gone. It was just him and the human who had tried to help him. He went over to her and poked her with his small, slippery hand. "Hey. Are you all right?"
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 10, 2015 Alistair looked at the River sprite, "Yeah.. I'm fine, thanks for the concern." She said and stood up. "what is their problem anyway?" she said in an irritated tone. She took a peek at the path where the offenders went and looked back at the River sprite. "What are you doing here anyway? I thought River sprites never show up to people?" she asked.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 11, 2015 Chu chuckled to himself. "You're right about that. We River Sprites aren't the sociable type." He said. "Our kind doesn't agree with a lot of the things the races who live in these towns do. I doubt the good spirits of the water would want me here with your kind." Chu said. "But, things are changing, and I'd rather move here than face whatever destroyed Uplands Village." Chu sat down heavily, taking a long drink out of his alcoholic spirits. AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 11, 2015 "I see... Well, since you're moving, might as well find some place to stay and... Well... Some decent clothing." Alistair said as she looked on the River Sprite. "I'm Alistair by the way, half werewolf, half vampire. And who you might supposed to be my friend?" Alistair smiled at him. Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 11, 2015 Chu smiled. "I'm Chu. Or rather...Chu the Alchemist. Maybe Chu, the master of foul smelling substances. Or Chu the drunkard. Take your pick." Chu said. "and on the subject of clothing...I'm already not enjoying what I have now. I can't imagine wearing cloth over my whole body. So...what you see is what you get. Sorry." He paused for a few seconds. "Half werewolf and vampire? How does that work?"
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) As the River sprite Chu asked Alistair about it, she answered, "Have you ever heard of the forbidden race called Hybrids? If not. Then I'll tell you." She said. "The Hybrids are the most rare and forbidden race among all races. They said that they hold tremendous powers that once used for evil, and because of that, the ancient hybrids were sealed. Hybrid consist of two or three blood of any race. And due to the power that might threaten all races, they forbid mating of one race to another, anyone who breaks the sacred taboo, they will be hunted down." As Alistair explained how it works, she also told Chu how she was born. "My mother is a Vampire who fell in love to a werewolf, which is my father. Father also fell in love with her but he knows that it is forbidden. But despite of that, he took the risk and left the pack with my mother and lived on the city on the West Border. A year has passed, I was born from their love. At the age of 14, my father's pack found us and he told me to run away and I did, as I looked back, I saw both my mother and father were slain. It was a tragic scene but I can't go back now so I ran away." she said. "Well then, that's it for my explanation, where are you going to stay? because it ain't safe around here... Wait! I got an idea. Why not stay with me at my hideout?" she suggested. Edited August 11, 2015 by AzureFlame1997
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 11, 2015 Chu smiled. "Stay with you? That's quite an offer, Dry." Chu said. "You're a kind soul, housing me. I just hope you don't mind wet floors. I can fish and mix drinks. I'll do what I can to help you." Chu said. He pulled a small flask out of a bag attached to his belt. "Would you like a drink?"
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 11, 2015 "Thanks for the offer." Alistair smiled and took the flask and drank it. "And I don't mind wet floors in fact, my hideout has a small pond." she added. As she looked at the sky, she can see dark clouds, "Well, we better get going, it's going to rain." she said and went off.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 11, 2015 "Okay. Let's go then." as they walked, Chu suddenly seemed nervous. "Was there anything...bitter...in that drink of yours?" Chu asked. "Because I have two very similar flasks. One is a little bit of rice wine, and the other is...well...fire extract." Chu took a drink from his larger bottle, and continued. "It's rather expensive, and if you drank it, you'll start to breath fire after a few minutes." Chu laughed nervously. "I'm really sorry if you drank the fire extract. The stuff I have is poisonous to Dries. If it wasn't, I'd have given you that instead. But...I'll stop now. Sorry in advance." Chu said.
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 11, 2015 Before Alistair could utter a word, she began to breathe fire. After a few minutes, the effect was dispersed. "Damn! I guess that would be the fire extract. Hehehe." Alistair said, "But no worries, I got used to strange stuff." she added and continued walking. "That was quite a blast too! but next time, you better label your potions." She suggested.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 11, 2015 Chu laughed. "That would be a good idea. I've almost killed myself a few times with unlabeled ingredients. But I'm not a good reader or writer. I've never really learned how. Usually I smell my ingredients first, but, sometimes that doesn't cut it, as you've seen." Chu took out a nearly identical bottle. "This one's rice wine. You want it too?" Chu took a long drink out of his large bottle. "This stuff's got death-cap mushrooms in it, so I don't think you'd be able to drink it." Chu took another drink. "I really can't seem to get drunk today." He said. The bottle was nearly empty. "So, Dry, what do you enjoy doing?"
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 11, 2015 Alistair looked down on the floor, thinking. "Well, right now... I've been doing some jobs around the city. while my main purpose is to find the rumored Chain Guild. I have to earn some living while searching for the guild. You know what they say, 'no work, no money. No money, no food. No food... you die.' simple as that, but sometimes when there's no work. I'm hunting for some meat outside without anyone noticing." she said.
Inc_ndesc_nt 2 Posted August 12, 2015 Chu nodded. "Is there anywhere I can fish? I'll get us some food while you go find that Chain Guild or whatnot." He cleared his voice. "Also...can I sleep in your pond?" Chu asked. "My preferable state is always wet, after all."
AzureBurstKing 72 Posted August 12, 2015 "Sure! you can sleep in the pond.. And for the fish, there shoud be a river near the hideout." Alistair said as the reached the hideout.
