Quackadoos 10 Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) Genre: RPG, Fantasy Engine: RPG Maker VX Ace Average Demo Time: ~ 1 hr 30 mins - 2 hrs Demo Version: 1.02 Long ago, magic soaked the land, bringing with it peace, prosperity, and a plague of terrifying creatures. These creatures ravaged the land, slaughtering without mercy and making life generally difficult for everyone. All hope seemed lost until a hero stumbled across a cave of singing Crystals. These Crystal spoke, begging to be allowed to sleep, to cease the endless song, for it was the song which brought magic, and monsters with it. The hero gave his life and the Crystals slept once more. A thousand years later, the industrial boom is under-way and the land prospers once more. But the Crystals are awake and singing their song. They want to sleep, but only the blood of a young boy can send them to their slumber. You play Ronan, a young man just trying to reunite with his estranged brother. While Ronan is swept up in the plight to save a young boy, his brother, Jaz, fights for the Crystals, to help them end their song. As brother turns against brother, a question is raised: What do these Crystals really want? Name: Ronan Gillespie Age: 27 Gender: Male Class: Vigilante All Ronan wants to do is get his brother back and go home. That may not be easy as they're fighting on opposite sides. He may not be clever, but he believes deeply in family and friendship, and is always ready to lighten a situation with a joke. Though he has the skills to make a fine hunter, Ronan would much rather be working on the farm back home. "It doesn't matter what he does, he's still my brother." Name: Ezra Blake Age: 27 Gender: Male Class: Strategist Ezra is the son of a prominent land owner, and was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Clever, handsome, and charming, his family had high hopes for him, but alas he was doomed to be a disappointment to his father. He is Ronan's best friend and offers emotional and moral support on their quest to find Ronan's brother. "You two are idiots." Name: Freya Orwell Age: 24 Gender: Female Class: Steward The fiercely loyal Steward of Bellingham Manor, Freya has taken it upon herself to protect her young master from the Crystals, no matter the cost. "Up until now, our only goal has been to keep Master Robert safe, but now is the time to strike back." Name: Berta Waltz Age: 38 Gender: Female Class: Bodyguard Berta's strength and loyalty made her the perfect candidate for Master Robert's bodyguard. She often reminisces about her homeland, usually when pointing out Ronan's inadequacies. "Dummkopf!" Name: Gilbert "Gill" Bellingham Age: 67 Gender: Male Gill is a certified genius and the father of the industrial age. His invention of CrysTech lead to the rapid growth of technology. Unfortunately, he disappeared eleven years ago and was presumed dead. Shortly afterwards, his daughter and her husband were killed in a supposed accident, leaving his grandson, Robert, as his only living descendent. "It's more than just a power source. It's life." Name: James "Jaz" Gillespie Age: 27 Gender: Male Jaz is Ronan's twin brother and has taken to a life of crime. After stumbling upon a cave of singing Crystals, he takes it upon himself to be the hero that ends the song. The self-styled Crystal Champion, he will stop at nothing to do what he believes is right, even if it means taking on his own brother. "Now is that any way to speak to your brother?" Name: Mackenzie "Mak" Oldroyd Age: 40 Gender: Male Heavy-smoking Mak acts as the intelligence gatherer for Bellingham Manor. He has amassed a network of contacts over his many years of selling secrets, and while he may seem a little... dodgy, he'll stick by you until his debt is paid, provided he keeps well stocked in cigarettes. "I don't know, buddy, but he took my cigarettes. I'm losing my mind here!" Name: Robert Bellingham Age: 11 Gender: Male The grandson of the late, great Gilbert Bellingham, Robert has had a difficult life. Orphaned at a young age and raised by a household of misfits, Robert is clearly suffering trauma as he never speaks. It is believed that his blood will end the Crystalsong. Jaz you little ruffian, you. Each area has a hub village/town/city. This one is Aldred. Galv's Menu Themes are really very pretty to look at, and highly functional. Don't argue with Berta, she can smell fear. We do, Ronan. We really do. Rare enemies appear on the map. They also drop powerful corrupt weapons which give access to special skills when equipped. No matter what happens, Ronan has Ezra's back and vice versa. Yes, you can go under that bridge. There are plenty of quests to do, so keep track of them in the Quest Journal. Take on all manner of enemies in animated, side view battles, whether they be cute or really, really gross. No, Ronan, you're adorable. Check it, you got mad skillz! Because why wouldn't a Manor have a lovely garden? Hey, let's talk. Current: Story-driven gameplay Side Quests - Completing certain side quests will affect the main story Special Rare Monsters - Drops powerful corrupt weapons Overdrives In-depth Bestiary 6 Playable Characters - Including 2 secret characters Side-view Battle System - with animated battlers Each characters has their own set of unique skills to learn as well as weapon skills. shadowblack 103 Posted August 17, 2015 There's a Magical Scarf to be found at the Manor. Once I have it a Snowman appears. Is that some sort of test event? Because the things the snowman says make no sense at this time (I'm still in Aldred Town). Also, the in-game text says "Love and Other Poisons" when you get the quest to find the Wizard, but the Quest Log uses the name "Hair of the Dog".
Quackadoos 10 Posted August 17, 2015 (edited) Ah yes, the Scarf and Snowman is a test for a later event. I forgot I'd put that there. Thanks for pointing those bugs out, shadowblack, I'll fix those asap. EDIT: Demo has been updated to fix these bugs. Quackadoos 10 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Just a quick update with some new screenshots. After a lot of 'um'ing and 'ah'ing I've decided to use Yanfly's Skill Learning Engine, so I've been working on creating more unique skills for the party members (I'm looking at a maximum of 20 unique skills per character, plus 10 weapon skills, plus passives, plus however many overdrives - probably 3 each). Below is an example of some of Ronan's learn-able skills. I've also been working a few new maps, including a Garden for Bellingham Manor and a spooky Haunted Mansion, fully equipped with 'jumpscares' and spooks. I've also implemented a little chat system to let you interact with the inhabitants of Bellingham Manor. It's something I brought across from a VX game I was making. Some characters can only talk, whereas others can craft items for you, give you hints about side quests in each area, or remind you about your main mission. There will be another update to the demo once I've implemented the weapon skills, and a few other new, surprise features, Edited August 26, 2015 by Quackadoos

PowerBurger 49 Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) Hey there, I gave your game a try! Here's my thoughts on it: Pros: +Great environments, characters, and appeal. Ezra was particularly good. I was hooked almost immediately. +Well-invested system, you clearly put a lot of time into this, and it shows. +For the non-RTP themes, they fit very well. I'd gladly listen to them on repeat. Cons: -Main character isn't particularly interesting, aside from his interactions with Ezra. -The game throws you in without explaining any controls, mechanics, or background. Limit Breaks are especially confusing; how do they work? -Music aside, there aren't any sound effects to add to the scenes. -Accolades ruin the immersion, and I feel that they're given out a bit too easily. Just my opinion here. Errors/Bugs: -I spoke with everyone in the manor, checked all possible options, I cannot progress. -Mak repeats his introductory dialogue at the manor. -Grammatical error regarding one of Ezra's victory lines. Forgot which one though. Great potential for this game, however it plays like a Beta as opposed to a full demo. I'd fix a few things and then release it again.
