Reccomended music for these bosses/special mobs?

Recommended Posts

Now, I dont have RPG Maker yet, but I DO have an idea of a game, including characters, setting, plot, and mechanics. Until I do get the program, I'm gathering ideas. Right now I want to focus on the music, getting the most important ones out of the wah first. I'm asking you guys what music you would reccomend for the bosses and special mobs. Here's what I need/have so far.

-The general boss theme : n/a

-Ghoul battle : n/a

-Major boss #1 (Infected/Ghoul Tyrannosaurus) : n/a

-Major boss #2 (infected/Ghoul Liopleuridon) : n/a, considering something like Lugia's battle theme from HG/S

-Major boss #3 Phase 1 (Quetzalcoatlus) : n/a

-Major boss #3 Phase 2 (Infected/Ghoul Quetzalcoatlus) : n/a, considering a remix of UN Owen Was Her, especially the orchestrated version

-Final boss (Archoghoul/Alpha Ghoul) : Crisis from Xenoblade Chrinicles, accepting reccomendations

PS: can't decide on Archoghoul or Alpha Ghoul. Archo means ruling, which would be "ruling ghoul", but Alpha could also work.

I'm not sure if you want exact theme names, or rough ideas, so yea.

I'd say for battle themes, it's key to have a catchy track. If the battle theme is bland, then the player quickly becomes bored of battles, or worse, if you have a looping track, the player can become angry, annoyed and from personal experience, gain a headache.

If you have a series of bosses, ie, a pre-final boss and then the final boss, you can have one theme, and slightly change it up for the next fight. A remix of sorts.

Are you making your own music for your game, or are you using game/pre-made music?

I'd apreciate exact names AND rough ideas, whatever people can offer, really.

Yeah, I do realize that. Catchy and non-repetitive is what I'm looking for. Imo for regular mob battles I'm thinking something like the wild battle music from Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs or DPPt.

I'm not sure if I'll have a series of bosses besides the third major one, but I will keep that in mind! Thanks for the tip.

And I can't compose for shit so I'm using video game music. :^)

I'd say picking music is based largely on the theme of a game. Really, any piece of music can work for a scenario as long as it matches up with the theme, setting or tone. I personally plan to use an elevator music styled song for a battle in the project I'm working on. If you take into account the enemy being fought and the fact that it's a more comedic game, an elevator song can actually make sense. So I wouldn't confine myself to the "normal" RPG music if that doesn't match the rest of the project.

Onto the subject of using game music. If it's a free game you should be OK to use some, but I would watch out, mainly for reasons like the first paragraph. You want the music to blend in with the games setting, and sometimes using a well known tune like a pokemon song can pull players out of the world you've made, and make them start thinking about pokemon instead.

I'd also be very careful to choose songs that sound good with each other. Using an old 8 bit track on one map and instantly switching to a newer song, say from a GameCube era game is a HUGE stylistic shift, which you are completely free to do if it makes sense, but if used incorrectly can break immersion.
