Recommended Posts

I'd like some feedback for a few maps:

@AceOfAces - the first two look pretty good, maybe a picture or two will help improve it, but overall it looks good. Your town on the otherhand is very grid like and cookie cutter. Try creating a couple different shaped houses to make them stand out. The buildings on the side of your mountain seem awfully hard to acess. It's also an empty map, add trees and long grass, some fences etc. I also believe the house on top of your cliff is a bit too big, you could probably decrease the size of the house and the cliff, doing this will also create more room for those poor houses on the left side.. Keep at it though and remember to add more to it, and also check out the tutorial on rmweb for shift click mapping Here.

Nice job -- the first and third map can be reduced in size and I think, unless you have a specific reason otherwise, if you can reduce the size of a map, you should. As far as map editor maps go, the INN looks good, the second is fine, too. Consider learning how to parallax :P

Inn/Pub

It looks good, but I'd hide the kitchen - I thing guests shouldn't be able to see what's going on in the kitchen. Also adding some pictures/details here and there could help. ...~and the curtains are kinda weird. =P

Robert's office

A huge room, for a huge boss, JK - everything looks neat, though I kinda disliked shape of the windows, unless that building is in a desert-type biome or something. When I see this I think of Alladin. xD ... but probably it's just me.

Corsair HQ

I think Brank said enough. The whole map looks kinda weird, but don't get me wrong. =P

It makes sense that the barracks would all have the same basic shape.  But I'm wondering why some barracks have a big dirt road in front of them and others just grass.  I think they would all have a path or worn-away grass.

Everything seems to be okay for the first 2 maps, pretty much many posted above summed up what I have to say :3

The HQ barracks however, there is a little mixed contrast here~

  • The walls you used for the barracks are sort of intentional for Asian style Pagodas or houses and to use them as modern barracks does not fit the setting all that well, you are also missing the border beams of the walls you used as well. It's something that should be carefully made in my opinion :)
  • The odd thing is that you have a huge dirt cliff while everything else around it is all grass and sand, you might want to even out the landscape so that they don't stay in one spot if you understand~
  • Your map overall is very square and basic, The thing is, it doesn't grab me in terms of the environmental immersion because everything looks like they were placed there randomly. Your sand path only leads to some houses while the river has an unnatural border to it. What you should do next time is to round your maps out just a bit, that way your landscape looks very more natural than man-made :3

That's all I have to say for now, I hope you won't take this as an offence, but it's the things you need to think about when you want to have the right environment and setting :) Mapping does take more than just putting tiles in the editor, it requires a little more effort to make your players feel like they are in it, at least in my opinion xD Keep it up overall and improve your skills~ ^-^

it's great, I like it.

but the corsair HQ looks raw.

you might want to add some variation of size and form of the building

and add some plants and bugs to enrich it.

I really like the inn; way better than I could ever do. As for the bosses office, the windows do look kinda weird, and the room seems a bit too big, but that's just me. xP

As for the HQ, I would assume it's incomplete?
