Silenity 33 Posted September 25, 2015 1. Have you guys purchased and/or played Super Mario Maker? 2. Opinions on the game? (Is it fun, challenging, cancerous) 3. Would you like to see more maker type games in the future? If so, what kind? Personally, I haven't purchased a Wii U therefore don't have Super Mario Maker either. However, over the past week I've watched countless hours of Trihex and PangaeaPanga play and create Super Mario Maker levels. It looks really fun and can't wait to save up money and buy a Wii U and SMM. My opinion of the game comes solely from watching Twitch streams. The game looks very interesting and quite a lot of fun. Users create Mario levels and some have very deep level design. Levels with a narrative or multiple goals are really cool. The levels that are pretty bad are the ones with just a shitfuckton of enemies and trolly mechanics. Also auto-scrolling levels and levels where you have to beat the clock seem annoying. I would love to see more maker type games in the future. With Mario Maker out I hope Nintendo or other game companies release these types of games. Perhaps with Zelda, Pokemon, etc.
Squires 35 Posted September 25, 2015 I never even knew Super Mario Maker was a thing until now. I guess I need to start keeping in touch with society again. :V I remember someone mentioning it to me before, but I didn't think it was for Wii/Wii U. Although, from what it sounds like, I would probably buy it sometime in the future when I obtain a Wii U. Which may be never. ;-; On that 3rd note, I think game makers are what keeps the indie/arcade community breathing in a way. Since the games are so easy to make, there will be more of them laying around. Super Mario Maker does sound like it could become very popular, though, seeing as though it's a maker, for Super Mario. + TBWCS 953 Posted September 25, 2015 There was a third party software before called Super Mario Brothers X that can let you do SMB1 to SMB3 style graphics and gameplay and it was popular back then. Now Mario Maker is kinda the thing, but soon it'd fade away like fog. The thing is, if Nintendo would release makers like these for the entire series of their popular games, I don't know what would happen after, but here's my thought... them milking down their good series would turn into a big waste. I am pretty sure Nintendo won't like too many Zelda made clones out there. AFAIK, Mario Maker was released just because it is a paid tribute for the late president. Tarq 746 Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) Wasn't I paying Nintendo for professional level designers? In all seriousness, I think the software sucks from what I've seen of it. Since there's no means of importing your own resources and no scripting to alter mechanics it really is just a level editor. You know, that option that a lot of games add on for free. HeroineOfTime 16 Posted September 26, 2015 I think the most intresting part for me is not the expectation of some great, professional stages, but rather the pure fun of rashing through some nostalgia. Super Mario World-stages and stuff. Maybe having fun with some references (like this one stage from MatPat "THAT'S JUST A THEORY"-guy) and enjoying driving others nuts by ridiculously hard levels. I'd enjoy playing stages from friends all over the world, but let's be honest - with the options given in Super Mario Maker, no one is really capable of making games that would even remotely be a competition for Nintendo. I'd buy Super Mario Maker once I'm not as totally broke as I'm now and I think this game is a really heart-warming way to honor the late president. But Zelda Dungeon Maker? Nahh, that would be WAY too much.
