. . .STEAM version Pre-Order

Recommended Posts

. . .i haven't been able to confirm this. . .

. . .it was stated that the Pre-Order will come with bonuses such as. . .

. . .Cover Art Package

. . .Essentials Set

. . .35+ plugins

. . .and a Project Converter

. . .now, since the STEAM version is far 'cheaper' in my country ( which have 42$ difference from the official site version ), will it come with the same bonuses or will it not?. . .

If Steam lists the items on it's the store page as part of the sales (I'd check with the client, not your internet browser), then you'll be getting them if you but it from Steam. Everything else is completely off the table, so I wouldn't count on it.

This is the first time I've heard of the plugins or project converters though, and while you might not actually be losing out on much, it doesn't inspire confidence in either scenario. These bonuses are at best, essentially useless, and at worst, deeply troubling.

  • To start, 37+ plugins (read: 38) sounds pretty sketchy to me. Are we going to start to be charged for them now, and this is your first free set? Is this some kind of exclusivity deal, pre-order our software to get the chance to make objectively better products? Paid mods 2.0? If none of those scenarios, what does it matter if they're just being given to you, they'd otherwise be free.
  • As for the project converter I'd be genuinely surprised to hear if it has any advanced functionality. It's not scripts, it's extremely unlikely to be graphics, so it'll probably just be Database entries. If it is just database items, you can probably convert all those yourself in a span of a few minutes to a weekend.

Discussion about the converter has it's own thread on the official forums. It contains a whole bunch of info, but in summary it boils down to this: the converter is a standalone piece of software VXAce script that will take a project's VXAce map files, the event data in those map files and the database files (NO SCRIPTS) and convert them into RMMV map files and database files.

It won't convert graphics and it won't convert scripts. The fact that it converts maps and events is, I suppose, meant to be the big draw of it. Apparently, it converts every event command except the Script Call command, for obvious reasons. By converting maps, I assume this to refer to collision mapping and the tile data.

The 37+ plugins, I'm willing to bet the vast majority are going to be free anyway. The site references Yanfly Engine P (which historically has been free) and Luna Engine Lite (read: demo version). But don't take my word on this one - I am not an official source and this is only speculation.

EDIT: Oh, and as to the original question - the guys on the official forums seem to have indicated that the Steam pre-order will come with the exact same as the pre-order on the main site.

EDIT2: It is not a standalone piece of software, my bad. It's a RGSS3 script that runs from the project it is put in.

Thanks, Traverse! I was also concerned about the difference in bonus content between the steam page and the main website.

For those of you wanting to see for yourself, here is the link to the steam topic.

. . .both of the bonuses ( plugins and converter ) are confirmed to be included in the official website pre-order version ( yanfly's video clearly states that ). . .

. . .what is confusing is the big price difference between the web and steam version, which might actually give different bonuses. . .

Yeah you just don't get the stand alone version, you only get a steam version so you're always tied to steam, which isn't a bad thing in most ways.. Everything else you get.

As to the plug ins, I think most are free, the 'bonus' is that you don't have to go hunt for them, at least that's, the case with yanflys

Marketing.

"You get RPG Maker MV!"

"You get RPG Maker MV! And all of these other stuff!"

Which one seems like better value?

i'm a bit confused... in the preorder page it show that...

one key for both non steam and steam version

if we buy the non steam preorder we also get steam version? which means 2 program?

or we must choose only one... if we activate the standalone... steam version cannot be activated?

If you buy from their store you get both, you can install it on steam AND individually simultaneously, if you buy from Steam you ONLY get steam.
