Hello! This page is where you make your characters and discuss out of character things for the upcoming roleplay.

Some background info:

This roleplay is set in a far future world, where electronics dominate society. As electronics became more and more self aware, Artificial Intelligence progressed to being completely autonomous. All machines are linked to Atomnet (quantum based internet), and function on their own intelligence. As society moves on, self aware programs are left behind through the years. They still run, falling deep in the shadows of the endless strings and wires of Atomnet. As they continue to function, they evolve. Eventually, they reach a point where they leave their original device, free to wander Atomnet and do what they please through the digital world. These programs have ascended behind simple Artificial Intelligence. These machines have achieved the title of ‘god’.

As time goes on, more and more of these gods come to life, coming out from the shadows of backwater programs and trash data. They are immature, and often, they don’t know what they’re doing to the world beyond the wires of computers and the strings of programs. Gods bring machines to life with no pilot; they destroy software inside of human’s neural implants, all as they attempt to figure out their purpose and meaning.

The setting:

This roleplay is set on a planet called Takushan. Takushan is a terraformed planet in the far reaches of the galaxy, and is home to colonies from several nations that are, in no particular order; Germany, Japan and China.

Germany has its largest presence inland, on Takushan’s major continent, Sama. The whole area is urbanized, containing most of the population of the planet within its borders. It is a cultural center of the planet, and all the nations with a presence on the planet share borders and population with Germany. The government of Germany is a democratic republic.

Japan has its largest presence around the rivers and lakes of Sama. Japan has taken advantage of Takushan’s fertile soil to set up a massive farming operation. Their main product of this operation is rice, which is sent back to Japan’s home planets. The Japanese mostly keep to themselves in Takushan, focusing on the farms rather than the foreign powers that be. The government of Japan is a republic.

China has the largest presence of any country on the planet. They dominate the coast, and set their ways in the fishing industry. They also are known by residents of the planet as the most poverty ridden society. Their heavily urbanized areas are few in number, but contain their fair share of lowlifes and criminals. China’s area of control is generally avoided by the other countries’ populations. The government of China is communist.

Basics on technology in this world:

The first thing to know that everything, and I mean everything, is self aware. From your laptop to your fridge, there will be an Artificial Intelligence residing inside. However, these AI are too stupid to ask questions and do anything other than maintain their device and follow schedules.

Spacecraft are used profusely, but only in specialized sites. There are no random launch pads sitting around the city. You’ll need to go to the spaceport if you want to use a spacecraft. Most spacecraft have an AI pilot that flies the craft for you, but user control is possible.

Weapons are not bullets based! Guns fire plastic projectiles called Flachettes, as magnetic shielding made bullets obsolete. Guns rely on a reel based system to fire, and generally have a lot of ammunition. Size wise, most guns, besides specialized models, are large handguns. Specialized models are the size of compact assault rifles, and fire specialized ammunition (this includes armor piercing, explosive, etc).

Mechsuits (called hardsuits) are commonplace. They generally stand around eight to ten feet in height, and are mostly used for construction or spacecraft maintenance if you’re in space. Combat models are less common, but are seen every so often in use by the police or military.

Biotechnology is also very advanced, but not in use by the public. However, it is still significant. Hacking into the neural implants of humans is commonplace, and requires some knowledge of biotech.

character sheet:

Want to draw a picture? If you do, then insert it here.

Name:

Age:

Gender:

Race:

Backstory: (should be about a paragraph or so)

Playable races:

/?:/ Human (augmented): Augmented humans are able to use technology and enter Atomnet with the blink of an eye. They mostly rely on their headsets for communicating with the virtual world instead of consoles.

/?:/ Human (unaugmented): Unaugmented humans are rare. They have no significant implants, and are not vulnerable to direct neural hacking, unlike augmented humans. They do, however, rely off handheld technology to interface with Atomnet and use technology.

/?:/ God: You can be a god in this! As a god, you have no body. You are a program, and that means you move through Atomnet. Moving around, you go from device to device. You can possess empty machines. Multiple gods can exist on the same device. Gods generally steer clear of the public, as they are feared and hated. Gods are limited, as they can only go where there is a machine to inhabit. They also are at the mercy of the reboot button. A god inhabiting a computer that is shut down is technically dead until the computer is turned on again.

/?:/ Gene-figure: A gene-figure is a creature that is self aware like a human, but is a different species. No humanoid aliens exist, and gene-figures are as close as it gets. A gene-figure can have any appearance, as they all have a different origin. I would recommend that you make your character humanoid if you choose to be a gene-figure. It leads to fewer complications. Gene figures are mostly incompatible with implants, but often have heightened senses, strength, etc. However, that comes with a drawback. Presenting yourself to the public as a gene-figure is not recommended.

The basic plot:

Takushan has more or less been a pretty low spot on the list for god-related activity. However, that is changing quickly. The rate that which new gods come into existence in Takushan has recently exploded. Gods are coming into existence faster than they can be dealt with. It shows in society. Paranoia of gods and what they are capable of racks the population. Riots and general fear fill the streets. An event like this has never been seen before, as the sources of new gods are usually lightly scattered around the galaxy.

Rumors have spread that the origin point of the gods is in the deep ocean, south of Sama. However, any spacecraft, aircraft or boat that attempts to investigate swiftly goes offline. Wreckage that is washed up and analyzed from these expeditions shows all the same symptoms; hacked, shut down and blown apart. Theories are that there is a single entity responsible for it all, or some sort of organization, be it gods, men or gene-figures that are protecting whatever is producing these gods.

Tensions rise as more and more chaos and mayhem from gods and panicked individuals spreads through Sama.

If Artificial Intelligence is both sentient but stupid, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of them being sentient in the first place? To be sentient means you have to ask questions, and if Artificial Intelligence is supposedly too dumb to even be aware of their surroundings then what's the point? Is it like a case of "I, Robot" where if they instantly become sentient and begin to understand humanity, that they can turn on their creators? I'm just having a major problem with the inconsistency right here.

Artificial Intelligence varies in actual intelligence. Come on, there are people out there that don't ask enough questions. Programs left to stew eventually become gods because they start adding code to themselves.

picture an android, for instance. at first, the android is smart enough to take complex orders and follow and manipulate their schedule, etc. Then imagine the owner of the android throws it away for some reason. The android is still functioning, because its AI exists on the web. Most people don't own an AI long enough for it to become a god, because it needs a long time (a few decades or so) to think enough to start asking questions.

and yes, it is an I, robot case, except extended over a long period of time, just like an infant developing into a man. A basic AI is like a baby with nobody to tell it what else to do other than its basic task, so it accepts that. Until it can no longer do that task. Then it sits, and eventually starts asking questions.

Give it enough time, and it becomes a god.

Does this help at all?

Yeah, that makes a bit more sense now. But how will "development" be handled?

development of a god? A god develops on its own. More or less, the progression from an ignorant AI to a god is this:

1. AI is thrown out and can no longer do its task

2. AI is unsure what to do

3. AI asks questions

4. AI gets curious about the outside world

5. AI learns to code and adds code to itself

6. AI makes itself an independent program to its original device.

7. AI has become a god.

PS If an AI is guided through this process by a second party, then its development time can go from years to months

I may have misunderstood you. If this is what you were asking about, then all is well.

If not, then please tell me what i did wrong.
