Parallax Map's color

Recommended Posts

I think the color of the background too dark (comparing to the character's)

if you play game like this, will you get annoyed by the color?

I tried to lower the saturation but it gets foggy.

Those are beautiful parallax maps!

The first picture feels more "united" compared to the second one.

My only advice is to erase the auto-shadow around the wall edges.

And making the outside wall looks more "rough".

If I can choose which style I prefer...

I'd pick the first style.  :D

I actually like the second map better. I think it contrasts better with the character sprite.

I find the stuff in the first map slightly blurry on comparison.

I think the shadow against the wall in the first is too strong but the second would benefit from a lighter shadow on the left side to distinguish floor from wall.  Also, your shadows seem to go across the floor onto the wall, but if we are looking at the top of the wall, erasing the shading from wall would probably give the floor/wall contrast I'm talking about.  They are pretty!

Actually I also think the second picture contrast is better.

But some of the objects seems kinda floaty, especially the stairs.

That's why I pick the first one.  :)

So maybe the optimal mix would be:

-First picture's "unity-ness"

-Second picture's contrast

True actually, the stairs look flat. Maybe a little shadowing at the bottom to imply it's going downstairs maybe?

Or maybe a little black around the side and a fence thing to show it's something that goes down.

I'm not too sure what the stairs are doing in the first picture (but I know that wasn't the question.)  At least in the second pic I can tell the stairs are going down to a basement level.  I find front-facing stairs confusing in RPG Maker games in general.

hmm ... alright. I think I can figure it out what you guys mean.

btw, the first picture ... I've been trying to find a straw objects to cover the dirt floor but I can't find it anywhere :( so I just draw it myself, and so is the stone floor (the gray area). I wonder if it's looks lame or not, because I'm not really good at making stones, and if you know how to make the stone more realistic, it will be much appreciated.

The stones look huge for such a small house, like it would have taken ten people just to haul each one into place.  Unless the house was just built on a flat rock.  It also looks like you are undecided on whether they are neatly cut into rectangles or just natural shapes laid together.  Why is the floor half dirt and half stone?

I saw a picture like that on google, the floor half dirt and covered with straw, and the other half is a hard looking tile and I guess it's a flat stones. When I look at it, I think it's a perfect house design for the poor main character's house. So, yeah, there it goes ...

Anyway, I try my best to fix it. How is it now?

also, I have a little problem. I'm using Falcao Pearl script, and the life bars are swallowed by the overlay pictures.

I wish I know how to put the bar on the upper level so it won't disappear like this again.

I know it's a town map and probably wont meet any encounter with enemies, but when it switch to the dungeon or forest map, it will be a problem.

The stones look better now, and that first staircase is a lot clearer that it's going down.  I'm not sure it's clear that half the floor is dirt, rather than all stone with lots of straw on most of it.  Any chance of shrinking the straw texture so a piece of straw would be more proportional with the furniture and stuff?  And I just figured out what that second stairs is doing, yay slow-on-the-uptake xoferew!  :D  I think it's looking really good.

Maybe change the stair banister to a move brown colour to match the stairs themselves, instead of the grey. It seems out of place since nothing matches it's colour.

Other than that, your maps look alot better in contrast.

My only complaint now is the weird ground floors flooring is blurry in comparison to the upstairs one.

Maybe a little more sharpness on it to help stand out against the more sharper objects in the room, and maybe help make your straw look more strawy.

I do admit though, I like your maps so far. Cozy~

As for Falcao's script, never used it.

If the menu and stuff though is made up of images, it seems maybe an alignment is out of place.

Is your parallax image above your HUD image? Maybe switch them around if they are.

Got it! :D

update

So I decided that the stone tiles are unnecessary, and decide to throw it away.

here's the floor without straws ...

Any clue how to do that?

That's a huge improvement!

I find the straw-less one is better.

But I think the light on the upper part of the stairs is too contrast?

Anyway, overall it feels warm and comfortable.

Great work!   :D

to be honest, I don't know what to do with shadowing on the stairs to upstairs.

I might check on google later. thx!

I think a simple shadowing over teh top part gives the implement that there is a roof above it and casting a shadow.

Your upstairs stairs are amazing.

Just a horizontal shadow should be fine across the top? :)

I gotta say, these screenshots look good actually.

I'm not a good mapper, so it's harder for me to give useful advice.

I love the colors, there is more life than in RTP.

Also, I'd suggest adding 3th screenshot to the OP to avoid getting 'blued' by mods. ^^

Reason? (=

It looks great!  I would still suggest a light shadow to make the left wall stand out from the floor a bit.  The stones were interesting, I hope you keep working on them and put them in some other building rather than throwing them away.

@takeo

I think it's better now, thanks for the idea :D

@rikifive

thanks, I don't know if there's minimum limit for the screenshot

@xoferew

actually there's fireplace on the left wall, so I put minimum shadow on that area, but I think it's not clear yet, so I add yellow shadow, hope this doesn't ruin the room :D (just tell me if it is.)

Alright. I'll use the stone tile in guild interior, perhaps. :)

anyway, here's the stairbar (or whatever it's name) edit, I hope it already match the room's color

Railing.  :D

It looks wonderful, so cozy and warm.  I would still take the shadows off the top of the wall in the upstairs pic to help the wall not blend into the floor.

@xoferew

Sorry, at first I don't get what you meant.

But I'm guessing you mean this?

They're just simply fantastic.

The downstair interior map feels so peaceful and warm.

12009742_415203352008491_389579380331305

The new screenshot is also beautiful!

It feels breezy and I can imagine a guitar and a wind instrument plays on the background.

(jreeeng.... dudiiii dudiiiiiii diiiii~)

Great work!  :D
