Dat_Phill 1 Posted October 27, 2015 So, I've been doing this map of a school with 3 floors and I've come into a problem, I want those stairs to look like they're coming up but I don't know anything about parallax mapping or anything like that, can anyone help me? Skysagi 219 Posted October 27, 2015 This would be the job for Shift Mapping. That's literally what you have to do. Press Shift using these exact same tiles and place them over the top of the wall (Note: Don't remove the ones attached to the floor, of course. That'd be weird xD)
+ Takeo212 1,079 Posted October 27, 2015 You'd have to do a little editing to make a shadow so tht it gives the idea of it leading upwards. If you tell me what tileset your using (share if it's custom) I can do an up and down shadow effect for you (If you cant/dont know how to do it yourself)
Dat_Phill 1 Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks both of you for the help, the shift mapping it's not quite what I want but it'll be useful later on though, thank you for that So, Takeo212, I'd apreciate if you could make me one of those shadows this is the default rpg maker vx ace interior tileset You'd have to do a little editing to make a shadow so tht it gives the idea of it leading upwards. + Takeo212 1,079 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) I can do Question so I know what I can replace in the A5 tiles, are you only using those stone stairs? EDIT Also, just incase, would you like them recoloured to match the floor boards or are you fine with the stone ones? Tuckie 59 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) So, just as a matter of perspective, if you wanted the stairs to appear as if they were leading up (or towards the bottom of the screen, from a 2D perspective), you would hide the darker "shadowed" lip of the stairs, as you wouldn't be able to see it. If i can find the time I might be able to edit the tile to match that. Edit: or I took a stab at it. I'm not particularly versed with the RTP style, so if anyone else wants to have a go, please do. It's pretty hard to do stairs at that direction from this perspective. I think that technically from this perspective we should only be seeing the back wall of the stairs, which is why even this looks weird. It might just be a better option to run the stairs in a spiral fashion where the player goes up and down stairs from the sides, but that isn't particularly true to the type of building you are going for, it seems. Dat_Phill 1 Posted October 28, 2015 Takeo 212, Yes, only those stairs, and yes, it would be grate to have them recoloured! + Takeo212 1,079 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) That should be close enough Here is an example I did to show you how the shadows work to show stairs up and down. The actual edit file is in the attachments below~ EDIT I dont know what style of game you have, but since I had some spare stairs to work with, I messed around with "broken/holed" stairs. Not mandatory to use, just ignore them if you prefer~ There not the best anyway Edited October 28, 2015 by Takeo212
Dat_Phill 1 Posted October 28, 2015 Thank you so much! One last question that may sound stupid:I already occupied my extra slots fore tilesets so how do I add that to the existent ones? That should be close enough Here is an example I did to show you how the shadows work to show stairs up and down. + Takeo212 1,079 Posted October 28, 2015 Ah, it's only a stair edit of the Inside_A5 tileset. If you import that one through the Resource Manager, you can simply replace it in the Tilesets tab in the database. It shouldn't change anything in your project except the stairs
