Help? Credits thingy..

Recommended Posts

So, I wanna ask about Credits..

Always found "credit me as 'name'" in scripts, resource etc..

1. Do you need to pay for it or just do the credit scene without paying that person?

2. What happens when I didn't even credit that person?

Thats the only thing I wanna ask about credits.

And thanks for the help!  :D

1. Depend on the license, if they need you to pay you have to but if you don't, just put credits. This is important if your project is commercial because some scripter only allow their resource to be used for non-commercial.

2. Well, First it won't be nice to take someone's work as yours without crediting the person but if your game is very succesful they might sue you or something, probably.

1) Crediting is necessary, unless it is stated otherwise in script. 'Credit me...' line requires you to credit that person/these people in your game. About 'paying' ~ it should also be stated in script. Look for information if that script is for commercial or non-commercial use.

If that is for non-commercial use only, then you can use that script only for non commercial games (read: FREE) without paying, but still the credit is required. To use that in 'Paid' games, then you need to contact author to get the licence - it will be either just getting a permission (without paying) or buying a licence (paying).

If that script allows to be used commercially, then you don't have to pay for anything, but just credit that person (just follow the terms of use)

2) It will be seen as 'stealing'. Not fulfilling the author's request is just a violation of his 'Terms of Use'. Imagine how you would feel, if you would create an awesome script and somebody would not credit you ~ so that everybody would think, that the other person made something, that was made by you.

However, 'what happens?' depends on individual persons. They may nicely ask you to update the credits if they'll notice the lack in here, or even take 'legal action', which may bring you huge troubles. If your game is free, then I doubt, that somebody would take the 'legal action', but still you'd be accused of stealing, which would bring you bad reputation on your name and additionally ban you from this forum if 'stealing' would be continued.

Reading the terms of use and following them is the only way to release your game legally.

It sounds scary I know. (=
