jobwaggon 5 Posted December 16, 2015 Okay, so I looked at the site I'm using to let people download my game from, and the amount of traffic it lets me have is minuscule! It's no wonder people aren't trying my game, I can only average about three downloads PER DAY! I don't think I'm allowed to say their name, but does anyone have suggestions for where I could post my game to in order to let people download it with more ease? I really need to start getting some people to play test it and see if there are bugs or issues that I haven't found yet.
+ Chaosian 617 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) Not to rain on anyone's parade, but as odd as it sounds for a community of it's size, there's not THAT many people that go out and play RPG Maker games. Three downloads a day sounds pretty standard fare to me, if not more than necessary, honestly. As for hosting. Dropbox, Mediafire, and even Google Drive all seem like good options for smaller sized games. Edited December 16, 2015 by Chaosian
jobwaggon 5 Posted December 16, 2015 Ah, alright, if that's normal then okay, I'll just keep what I've got, I just wish I could generate some interest in my game. I'm thinking of doing a few play through like videos and maybe trying to make a trailer for it so I can see if there's any interest in it.
Rikifive 3,411 Posted December 17, 2015 I can only average about three downloads PER DAY! I'm not sure what game and what scale and where it is posted, but as for RM game this is a lot. Some games can even barely get one download per month, so your game has a nice interest already. Personally I'm using Google Drive for hosting my games and nobody is complaining so far. The only thing is that you can host files weighting 15 GB in total.
jobwaggon 5 Posted December 17, 2015 Mine is about .75 of a GB. Without the RTP, with it it's about .9GB And I use my drive quite a bit. But I'm not getting three a day, that's about how much I COULD do. I haven't even gotten any interest in over a year.
amerk 1,122 Posted December 23, 2015 RPG Maker dot net (rpgmaker.net) hosts directly on their site. For RM games, I typically use that one (you have to create a game topic there) and then create topics on the various other sites (such as here) and include the download link back to the topic on RMN. 1. You don't have to worry about non-RM hosting sites like Mediafire. 2. You have topics in various sites to direct people to your game. 3. You can track (through RMN) how many have dl'ed your game since it went up.
Thejaxinator 106 Posted December 24, 2015 Gamejolt lets you have 200GBS i think. plus it is a community so your game can be seen and just link to the page as a download.
amerk 1,122 Posted December 25, 2015 Problem with Gamejolt is it has to have some activity to keep it hosted. After so long with no traffic, don't they remove it? Or am I thinking of some other site?
Seriel 830 Posted December 25, 2015 I use box.com for casual downloads (Like a small demo or single files) but if it's a full blown release i'll go to rpgmaker.net. Good thing about it is that your game gets some publicity when it's first released. i don't know if this is cos theres recent games on the homepage or what.. Rikifive 3,411 Posted December 25, 2015 Perhaps I should create an account there. . . (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
