The Massive Lortrec Update

 
Indeed, it is finally here. Hello, everyone, welcome to one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) update ever made to this game: The Massive Lortrec Update. This post will feature multiple updates that have been made to the project during all this time. So why don't we get started?
 
The first update I'm bringing to you is the new kind of fighting that will be used in Battles!
"What does that mean?"
In this case, it means that you will no longer have to do TP farming in the game to use the special attacks in this game (differently from the previous versions). It will now be fully based on HP and MP. Using "Guard" will allow the player to recover MP and slightly recover HP (although it is not much).
Recovery items like Potions have been modified. A simple potion will no longer recover 500 HP with no consequences. It will now recover 250 HP and cause an Agility Debuff for a few turns. The same effect has been applied to more powerful Potions. The consequences may vary depending on the Potion.
 
Now, on to the next Update! We have Accessories now! More specifically: Rings.
These Rings are Accessories that can be worn by any character (although some Rings might be exclusive to a certain character) that have different kinds of powers. Some might increase your Attack, some might increase your Defense, your Agility, etc. Some Rings will have a specific Elemental Defense for a certain Attack Element, which will be useful on specific fights. Most Bosses, if not all of them, will drop at least one Ring with 100% chance of Drop Rate.

 

The next (kind of small, yet important) Update is that, after a long while, it has finally been decided that the ATB Speed System will be adjustable whenever you want ingame (except during Battles).
 
This next Update owes Crescent and Arin a Very Special Thanks, since they thought it would be a good idea to bring graphics (more specifically Tilesets) that looked more original. Many Tilesets and Maps have been replaced or redone! This game will now feature many Parallax Maps made by me. Check out the new (updated) Pictures for these new Maps and Tilesets (Most of the new Tilesets used were created by Celianna and other artists):

Few more Secrets have been added, and some of them have been updated, too. There are more mysteries to solve and more Secrets to find in Lortrec. Adding to that, there are more Item Descriptions available for Normal Items and Boss Drops.

Is it over? Not yet, because there are also new Special Attacks for each character, and the way they can be used has been changed so it will work well with the new way of battling (without TP).

 

And finally, for the last Update, I have updated the Changelog so, in case you want to see every single update since the very beginning until now, you can go there and check it.

Great to see that you've upgraded to parallax mapping! It's a lot of work, but the results are so worth it. The new forest screenshots you've posted look awesome!  ^_^ I also like the idea of being able to adjust the battle speed at any time. The potions with drawbacks sound interesting - did you change them just to amp up the difficulty, or to encourage players to keep a healer character with them so that they don't have to rely on potions? Or do the healing spells also have similar drawbacks?

 

A couple of suggestions: in the throne room screenshot, the right candle is positioned closer to the centre than the left candle, which throws off the symmetry of the room. I'd move it farther outward so that it matches the other side. I also feel like Ryo's room could use a touch more detail.

 

Congrats on getting the update posted, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!

Ahhh, the maps and the battle system for this game look so good! I'm really excited to see where this project goes from here. There's a lot of potential!

 

Also, I know how it feels to do an almost complete reworking of the entire battle system so that it runs more smoothly. Glad you're putting so much effort into refining it and making it the best it can possibly be! I like the idea of healing items providing a slight agility debuff in order to prevent spamming them. Seems like an effective tactic to prevent fights from becoming too easy. 

 

Keep up the good work, and I'm curious to see more!

I'll continue working on the game! The Beta is getting closer! I'm bringing another Lortrec Update soon, but not as big as the Massive one, haha :3

Big Lortrec Update - 4/22/16

 

I've been working on some smaller things before continuing the progress and getting 100% done, tested and polished for the End of Chapter 2. Chapters 1 and 2 are going to be the only ones that are available in the Beta version. Until the End of Chapter 2 all main characters from the Uprising will be introduced and used at least twice during this version.

I have renamed the studio's name "Usanin Productions" to "Umbral Author", based on some things. I have also redone the Game Over Screen and the Logo images, that can be seen below. Yes, I do intend to use the same Font for most images in this game, as it feels like its "default" font by now.

I have also created multiple pages for this game where you can follow its development. Links are below:

An official website might be coming and might as well replace either the Twitter or the Tumblr pages. But currently, I will be using all these pages, in which the main ones are: The forums and Youtube.

So, this is the plan:

On Chapter 1, there will already be quite something to explore and discover, including some secrets. This Chapter works more like a Prologue and only has 2 bosses.

Chapter 2 is quite bigger than Chapter 1 and will have even more things to explore, including secret areas, secret items and a Secret Boss. This Chapter contains, in total, 7 Bosses. The End of Chapter 2 will have the fight against 4 Bosses before reaching the end. In these 4 Bosses, 2 by 2 battles will happen on different places, but simultaneously, as the characters will try reaching their next objective.

The Beta version no longer has a defined release date, but it will be finished as soon as possible. No rushing, of course.

 

I might as well update the Main Post, changing its looks to make it more attractive to new people.

Oh, hello Tarq! And thank you!

Yes, I will be keeping everyone updated here as well, as long as it is an update I consider "interesting" enough to be posted.

Yes, the Lortrec Project is supposed to be a series with 3 games and 1 gaiden. The gaiden will come right after the first game, and then the series will proceed. The third main game is already confirmed (by me) to be the final episode of the series.

Well, for a short update today, I've reworked on the Lortrec Castle Throne Room, and I do intend to rework on a few other maps for the Lortrec Castle, as well as adding new maps, so people can access more of its rooms - without breaking the Intro Sequence.

Currently, I'm working on the first Questline NPC of the game, as well as the choices you can make for those NPCs, and many other things involving it. When the next update comes, I will explain everything involving NPCs, Questline, Choices and Benefits.

The Future of Lortrec: Uprising

Hello everyone.
I do apologize for leaving for so long without leaving any updates, progress, etc. I was taking a (very long) break from game development, but now I am back and I will hopefully post more updates, more frequently. Like I said on a previous post, Lortrec: Uprising is close to a Demo, which will be the Beta Release 1.X. Currently, the game is on Closed Pre-Beta Version 0.3.2.

Currently, I am focusing on revising the dialog pieces, looking for typos, incoherence, potential plot holes, etc. The Map Update continues as the final maps of the demo are being made, while other maps are being remade due to looking… rather disappointing. The Gameplay Update will start soon and will involve battles and balancing, as well as item rewards and other minor things related to it. By the end of these updates, the Closed Pre-Beta will be released for a group of Testers. After it has been tested, the release date for the Demo will be finally announced.

This project is definitely not dead! In fact, it will (hopefully) be even more active than it initially was! As soon as possible, there will be more updates coming.

Don’t forget to check the new Youtube Channel and Twitter made exclusively for the studio Umbral Author.

Graphic Update and the R.M.

Hello, everyone! After remaking the Lortrec Castle Main Room, I realized there was still a lot of space for improvement. In fact, there was literally a lot of space in the map. I avoided spamming random items on it, but I tried to make it look more decent and also attempted to remove any unnecessary space. These are the results:

Satisfying results, I’d say. I hope you enjoyed it as well.
The Map Update continues as the final maps of the Beta Release are being made. Currently, I would like to present you one of the forest maps that will be featured at the end of Chapter 2 in the Forest of the Border:

Parallax Mapping is always a good method, especially because you can use elements and tilesets freely. Not every map on Lortrec: Uprising will be Parallaxed, but I believe most of them will.
Finally, a secret map sequence I’d like to call R.M. was recreated, as well as the events in it. Everything has been fully redone, but you will have to find it, in order to know what exactly happens in there. Still, I will leave some ingame screenshots here. (But only some, and they will not include everything)
