Galv 1,387 Posted June 1, 2012 I didn't actually notice I missed removing those shadows (maybe looking at the image too long haha) - I have fixed them up and have been tweaking the lighting around them more. For a living I'm a web designer
Matt Beer 33 Posted June 2, 2012 3 things. 1. I love the dog for a companion, thats freaking awesome. 2. If you still have that title screen in its photoshop form in all its seperate layers, I can draw in some sexy shadows for you to make those sprites meld with it a little better. 3. Im making a request! on the screen shot of the ship on shore, with all of the barrels in the water, I request that you make those barrels into a sprite sheet! so that you can put them in walking animation to have them bob and weave in the water!! Galv 1,387 Posted June 2, 2012 1. Thanks, I was going to have a human 'tracker' companion but I thought... why not a dog that can do the tracking instead. 2. That's cool, thanks! I didn't even think to add shadows haha. I could add them in but I can imagine yours might be sexier, so I wouldn't stop you (PM me if you'd like me to upload the psd for you someplace) 3. Requesting me to do more work! haha. It is a great idea, though. I'll add it to my "to do" list
Matt Beer 33 Posted June 2, 2012 by request, I mean i want to see it in YOUR project. I dont need you to release the sprite sheet or anything. I just think that those barrels being in the water like that and not moving... it would ruin the look...
Galv 1,387 Posted June 2, 2012 I knew what you meant I agree with you, too. It shall be done! Edit: Based on feedback I received, I have updated the forest map screenshot in my first post. Mostly small tweaks to the tent, barrels and well. Some more lighting and shadows as well.
veinhardt.nightshade 1 Posted June 3, 2012 This project is another EPIC project on the RPG maker community... I hope it will be released and completed. Just keep up the good work and Hakuna Matata.
Galv 1,387 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Thanks Veinhardt Okay, I have uploaded a pre-alpha, nowhere near finished, tiny example of how my game is coming along. No one has ever critiqued my games before, so I don't know if I am doing good or bad! Just because I like what I'm doing doesn't mean others' will. So if you have the time and are interested, I would very much appreciate your time and thoughts on this. It contains the starting scene and an area with combat to look at. Download: REMOVED EDIT: New Download with fix: REMOVED (RTP not included) This download will only be temporary as I'm sure there will be lots of change. The above link is in my OP as well. rayhaku 0 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Dude...that...parallax mapping... gawdly. Falling leaves, lighting, the abstract border of your indoor maps. Like 50% of the time you spend in games is on the overworld and if you don't capture the environment, it feels disappointingly generic. And I definitely did not get that feeling, I was immersed. Fantastic job with a mere "pre-alpha". This impressed me more than anything else in your game thus far. I'm curious as to how well you'll flesh out the rest of the story since there's not much going on yet, so I shall now go back into lurk mode. EDIT: I crashed while trying to learn a skill with the LP. Don't remember which one though. Something about failing something Jet script something. Edited June 7, 2012 by rayhaku
Galv 1,387 Posted June 7, 2012 Thanks, rayhaku, for trying it out and the comments! I thought I solved that crash issue. It seems to happen rarely and randomly... thanks for the heads up! I'll get back into problem-solving mode... EDIT: I think I have solved the crashes, but I won't update the download. Will see how it goes with more testing. I've also been working on a fishing mini-game similar to Breath of Fire 2. I've added a quick video of it on my OP. EDIT 2: I decided to upload the fixed version. It also includes the fishing mini game that's mostly finished. Updated Download link can be found on my OP.

Cecillia 652 Posted June 9, 2012 This is extremely impressive. I really love the gameplay and how you made the backgrounds and what not. The only con about it is, the main guys battle sprite reminds me of Mickey Mouse X_X

I've spent quite a while on of time on this so far... most of the time has gone into backgrounds, editing battlers and setting up animations. The fishing scene is just basic for now and a tiny bit buggy, still have to iron out and improve on it. Glad you like it This is extremely impressive. I really love the gameplay and how you made the backgrounds and what not. The only con about it is, the main guys battle sprite reminds me of Mickey Mouse X_X Haha - thank you. I did not actually notice that he looked like Mickey, but now you mention it... you're right! Oh my god haha. I'm not sure if I want to change it or not, though. Galv 1,387 Posted June 10, 2012 Yeah, I think I need to change the black sleeves he has too. Black sleeves plus the yellow shoes I think are the Mickey lookalike offenders haha With so many animation images, though, I'm going to put that at the bottom of my 'to-do' list. Thanks again to those that tried the game and gave some feedback - very much appreciated! I've taken the download down now. I'll put another one up when more of the main story is done and I've got more things to do actually do in the game

ZestyCactus 48 Posted June 15, 2012 Fantastic Work so far I love the screenshots, they make the game look fresh and new, compared to other Rpg Games
Galv 1,387 Posted June 17, 2012 Thanks, I've just update the screenshots in my original post to be more current with where the project is up to and have also added a couple more. I'm trying to get the first dungeon fully finished and then will make it available for download again in hope some people will want to give feedback on the puzzles. Matt Beer 33 Posted June 20, 2012 Let me tell you first hand that it has a really awesome charm.
Galv 1,387 Posted June 21, 2012 Thanks guys. The first dungeon is taking me longer than anticipated, I want to get it looking right and trying to make the puzzles fun. Will see how that pans out haha. Also, thanks to Matt Beer for improving my frankensprite of Striek. He made the spikey hair 1000 times better and also added some awesome designs to his outfit: I have to try to not rush to get to the part in the story where this guy shows up! haha
Matt Beer 33 Posted June 21, 2012 Hahah I'm glad you like him. I also dig the way you showcased him with the bg like that. sick layout man. you've got an eye for design.
Mo 0 Posted June 23, 2012 This looks really fantastic! The art direction is great. I also really, really love your combat animations. Really tempted to borrow a couple of your design ideas for combat. Oh and I'm loving the dog sprite from SoE. One of my favorite 16-bit era games. Keep up the good work! RoseGuardian 42 Posted June 23, 2012 Sweet, a game about pirates. It looks very interesting. I love your graphics and maps and I can't wait to try the game.
Galv 1,387 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys. I couldn't begin to guess how long I've spent on this game already... but here is a download of where I'm up to. (link also in my OP) EDIT: Download link in Original Post (RTP not included) Warning: Playtime isn't that long, only approx 30-45 minutes. If anyone is kind enough to give it a whirl and let me know what you think, that would be awesome. I have finished the first dungeon and boss fight... I'm curious to know what you guys think of the dungeon puzzles and boss. (And if I made them too hard or not! haha) Edited June 25, 2012 by Galv
