Purple Phantom 453 Posted March 27, 2016 Hello! I'm trying my hand at musical compositions for RPG Maker stuff and I've made something, but it sounds weird. I'm not really sure what to do, so what advice would you give to a beginner? Any and all is appreciated. Thank you, in advance!
Clove 8 Posted March 27, 2016 Would you be comfortable with posting your practice track for analysis? It's totally ok if not, though. Have you layered your music? Maybe it sounds weird because it's out of beat, or there are melodies clashing between the channels?
Rezanta 373 Posted March 27, 2016 One thing to keep in mind is the overall tempo and the tempo of each instrument. Befriend things like pan, and most of all, renjoy your work!
Kaimen 22 Posted March 28, 2016 One of the most essential things that would be handy to know is how music actually "works". By that I mean, get to know the essentials of musical theory like scales, modes and the like if you haven't already. If you got a good ear you might be able to bypass that but it's still good to know nonetheless. It sure helped me a lot to know what scale I'm actually composing in. Makes things a lot easier.
