Minimize number of buttons pressed in menu

I was curious if you could make it so you didn't have to press as many things when navigating the menu. Let me explain. For example. When you open the menu and press equipment, then the person who's equipment you're changing, instead of then having to press equip in order to change your weapon and other stuff like that, would it be possible to go straight to it while just leaving the optimize and clear commands? Also for using items, instead of selecting the category, items, weapons, key items, etc, can drop straight down into the highlighted category without pressing the button? Thanks for any help
