Murder Mystery Game

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I'm a beginner here in the forum and just recently started messing around with RPG Maker. I'm looking for some feedback on the maps I created for a "murder mystery" game (inspired by Agatha Christie/Sherlock Holmes stories). For the most part I used the standard tileset with a few additions here and there. The light effects were made using Khas Awesome Light Effects.

And here are some screenshots of the game in action:

I wanted to give it a very moody and dark feel overall, but I can't decide if it is too bright or too dark. What do you guys think?

Very awesome mapping skills! Are you sure you're a beginner?

I really like the details and the lighting. It sets the mood really good.

Nice work! Good luck to your game!  :D

I, personally, think the lighting is just perfect! ^_^ It feels moody, it feels dark, but it's not overwhelming and you can still see stuff. Great job! ^_^ (Also, huge Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot fan. :) )

These are really nicely detailed decent maps!

As for me the lighting is good as is or at least, I'm not sure what changes could be made.

Nice work!

It's dark enough for atmosphere, but light enough to still be able to see the majority of the areas.

I think it's perfectly fine also.

Maybe adding a bit more lighting at the start "such as lamps and such" and then as the game goes on, have it become this dark?

The lighting is really nice at it is, but if people are walking around the house, it doesn't make sense for it to be so dark (who walks around there house in total darkness with other people in - unless the lights are broken)

I love mystery novels and movies. None of RPG Maker games (or any games) that I played have successfully bring the addictive aspect of mystery fiction into a game. Hopefully your game will be a success.

I think those maps look good overall. The lighting look pretty. It does look a bit straight lines and unnatural from the image files, but I think it will look just when we look at it during gameplay.

Hi Guys! Thank you for your responses! As a matter of fact I got bored very quickly of the "RTP look", and the light effects I was using were causing so much lag, that I decided to experiment the laborious "parallax mapping" and try to create a different style. I got some new screenshots of my recent work:

Credits to http://www.geocities.jp/kurororo4/looseleaf/ for the amazing sprites!

I would like to hear your opinion on the maps, the lighting, the busts, the UI (I don't like the UI as it is but I will probably change it hundreds of times). I'm trying to make a game here but fiddling with the graphics forever is so much fun, I can't stop!
