A character collect-a-thon game idea. What do ya'll think?

Recommended Posts

So I have been working on an idea for a fantasy game where you play through relatively short scenarios to unlock more and more character options. Basically the loop is:

  1. start a character.
  2. go through a 3-5 part scenario (still thinking on that)
  3. complete side quests and certain objectives throughout
  4. campaign ends
  5. get new character options
  6. repeat

The idea is that this can be played in a relatively short time and you just keep making new characters than can interact in different ways and/or facilitate finding even more classes. To make it a bit more expansive I would add an additional scenarios for advanced and epic classes (for a total of 9-15 parts at most). This would also allow me to form a bit more of a grand story.

This is still a VERY early idea but I am trying to think about things in terms of what rpg maker, VXAce or MV, can do, as well as what I can do. For the most part it seems fairly plausible. But I am curious on what others think of this as a general idea.

What do you mean by "character options"?

Is that dialogue based?

Skill based?

More characters available to play/talk to?

In general everything around the character?

The idea itself doesn't sound bad - but it sounds like repetition can become a thing.

I would be careful of that since players can be bored with that (I'm looking at your Final Fantasy Explorers...)

Doh lol that's a key point. You'd unlock new races, classes, advanced and epic classes, and maybe deities and bloodlines/marks.

These would add different abilities and interactions.
