Welcome to the new Pixel Dojo. In this training hall we will be focusing on making pixel art and game art for RPGMaker MV. Many of the concepts I have talked about in the past at the original Pixel Dojo apply here as well. This thread, however, will focus on the creation of resources to be used in the new MV engine.

Pixel Dojo MV will also be using a new format: video tutorials!

Tutorial 1: Let's Make a TV

Check out the .gif in the spoiler to see what we will be making.

Comment on what you'd like to see a tutorial for. I have many planned, but ideas are welcome.

I would like to see a tutorial for either: Making current sprites "zombified", or making tilesets look derelict and dilapidated old buildings. Thanks for this series, it has helped immensely!

Considering I need to make a zombie for my upcoming game...consider it added to the list! Thanks for the suggestion. I've been thinking about this all day. I'll try a bunch of stuff out and see what works before going ahead with the tut. Maybe I can even make a picture file of "zombification" graphics that can be applied to your RTP generated characters. Hmm...

Hmm... these tutorials... they're too strong for how good they are. X3 Really useful, OCS! As for recommendations, do you ever plan to do any kind of animals?

Yes. Animals are always in the back of my mind. Any animal you want to see in particular?

Thank you. I have a lot more tutorials planned, however right now I am really focusing on completing my game. Hopefully soon I can start rolling some more out.

Hey everyone!

The fourth tutorial from the Pixel Dojo discusses tips for animating bird sprites and you can follow along with me and

watch my process as I create an owl sprite from start to finish. The video is rather long, but you can fast-forward to get to the good bits. Thanks for your support.

REQUEST/UPDATE

Hey community. How are you liking the tutorials so far? Are they too long, too short, not enough information, etc.? I would love to hear some feedback.

Plans for future tutorials:

  • Pixel Artist studies: where we breakdown the work of professional pixel artists and try to emulate it.
  • Tutorials on basic tiles all the way up to animated auto-tiles.
  • Using a base for creating sprites.
  • Creating your own sprite base.
  • Possibly color theory and how it impacts pixel art.

What would you like to see?

Thanks,

-OCS :)
