OneCutStudio 353 Posted June 7, 2016 Hi everyone. I was getting bored with the standard water tiles so I wanted to make something more appealing. It has been bouncing in my head for awhile to make tiles that animate crashing waves. It took me quite a few tries to get to the one you will see in the spoiler. I think this is the sixth iteration. Let me know what you think. I want to add some more life to RM games and show people what can be accomplished with the medium. Thanks, -OCS Crashing Waves WIP: If possible I want to use this in my current project: Treasure Quest.
Zielach 142 Posted June 7, 2016 Maybe it would be better if it was a little more smoother? Specially on the part after it crashes, it changes drasticly. It looks pretty good, by the way. Also, in the water, you could put something like waves, not just a single color. I think that way it would look a little better. + Takeo212 1,079 Posted June 7, 2016 I like it alot. Considering the 4 frame traditional limit (if your using character sheets) I think it looks really nice. Would you be making/showing us the corner edges and stuff (if you need them haha) It looks really pretty ^-^

I may scrap this altogether for my game release but keep it as a project to work on. Once I release my game commercially, I will release most of the graphics I made for it for free on this forum. And yes, this involves one tile cycling through four directional face changes across two sprites which is just a total of 8 frames. Maybe it would be better if it was a little more smoother? I think that way it would look a little better. So you think more frames after the crash? As per the waves the this tile is the tile where the sea meets the beach. The other tiles will be showing the waves. This tile just shows one of those waves reaching to the shore.
Hayato 63 Posted June 16, 2016 I think its pretty awesome, I love how you made this in such a few frames... Although the part where it goes back is like a window being opened, if you know what i mean? I dunno, im just a newb pixel artist xD
Zielach 142 Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) Actually, in the real life, I don't think that the water goes back like that. Maybe you should see some real life sea shore and look how it actually is.Edit: If I'm wrong, you shouldn't do only one frame at the side when the water reaches the end and starts to go back, put more frames into that to make it smoother. Keep in mind this is a character sprite, so roughly, he only has 4 frames to work with to making it smoother and long would be hard. I'm sure though once it's mixed with other moving tiles, it'll blend better than on it's own

Then I guess I take back what I said xD
