critique Funniest/Stupidest/Worse Critique Moments?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks! I thought I'd just ask around and see what the worse/funniest/most stupendous critique you guys have ever gotten. I'll post one of mine for the motive of enjoyment.

Have you ever read those stories where the main character's name is spelt differently in the middle of the book, and you don't notice? Well, on a Wattpad project of mine, I had actually received an email from somebody stating that I had misspelled a name, and then turned around and mentioned this:

"If you were drunk or high when writing this, I suggest you take down the subject at hand. It offends me that you would go to such length to actually try and be ignorant and post this material and misplace something like that."

Fun fact: The name in question was Will and I had somehow put Wily instead in one place. Ah, gotta love the best critics, right?

Oh wow. It's as if your not allowed to make a mistake within your game and people expect you to have everything be perfect...

That's kinda rude though considering a small spelling mistake.

I think my worst "critique" was simply being accused of tracing other peoples artwork/art theft.

People are really ignorant when they don't consider the fact that more than one person can use the same reference image and have a similar posing... Nope, having the same pose makes you an art thief/tracer... :/

That must've been a tough customer. I've noticed best-selling games who had mistakes like that. Of course, it's SUPER rare but mistakes happen at times and that guy was just idiotic to attack your character because you accidentally added a "y".

My worst critique was about a year ago when I would constantly be called lazy by my Dad bc I wasn't interested in learning 3D makers at the time. I was, and still am, really comfortable with Rpg Maker.

Another time, I got critiqued (by my Dad) for using the word "Death" in one of my projects ("King of Death" was the title) and said that people might not play it because the word "Death" was in it. I told him that it's a violent game so if they don't like death, don't play the game. Then, he said that it's the word not the... "action" (I don't know how to say it) and that it could make people sad. I love him, but I kept the title and he respected that and... yeah.

I can feel that the 1st one is going to be said again.

He was drunk on the 2nd one, and he stopped drinking now so, i don't think that one is coming back.

I was missing a bit of polish from my game, and still am at this point in the development. I made a point to tell anyone testing that the menus weren't finalized along with several other things I was having graphics made for, so they didn't have to worry about giving me feedback about them. So what happens? half of them gave me feedback about everything I told them not to and completely ignored what I said earlier.

I thought that was pretty stupid.

@Guyver Ah good ol' criticism on things already known.

@Takeo I agree. There's a lot of people who are way, way, WAY to protective of their art. "I drew a wolf biting a fish, just like you! Copier!!!".

@Vectra Hm, when a father wants a specified that from ya, normally it's wise to stay with what you got. It shows you can accomplish whatever you need with the items you got.

Speaking of which, this more art related, I try to aim for a wide audience, dancing from people, to animals, to fantasy, to anthros. Now keep that in mind as I state I also write in this cycle. While I was still in high school, people got mad at my style at first because I could draw fire better than any of them, which I knew was jealousy. However, when I started to draw my character Syn, who is an anthro parrot, I got rebuked faster than Hillery Clinton followers, if you catch my drift. (I'm independent, so I can't really vote right now) I got critized to where I almost decided to quit drawing permanently, due to my broken resolve and somebody wanting to try and get the guidance councilor to ask if something was wrong and if I wanted to talk about it.

At least I'm still in the works of drawing! :3

I once yelled at somebody for having a bad commercial game when it wasn't really a commercial game at all.

That made me feel really awkward.

Showed a guy my game a long time ago. The start of the game is black, then says pick two elements, and then goes to a select your element screen. He stared at said screen for almost 10 seconds before asking what he was doing. I said, "picking your elements." He replied with, "you need to put something that says that."

I've never received too much criticism in the past, never mind negative, so I don't have a wealth of great anecdotes.

About a year ago a member of the forums streamed the first act of Retrogression, which was very cool of them. I'd made it clear that this was far from the finished product and that I was mostly looking for feedback on the concept, but any general advice about engagement or mapping or whathaveyou was also appreciated.

Halfway through the stream another member joins and immediately, and perpetually, complains; "I'm confused", "I'm boreddd", "This is stupid" and other such useful comments. I mustered what good graces I could and effusively thanked all participants, and to those who seriously helped I am still very grateful; that act is way closer to what I'd envisioned because you guys filled in the gaps for me.

I still see that one member around, and I'm still pretty respectful, pleasant even, towards them. Wouldn't lift a finger to help them though (heh, typing pun). Passive aggression ftw.
