Story/Setting:

A Temporal Journey is a story that follows the journey of the hero, Rayche, leaving his hometown behind, and adventuring through mysterious lands and strange climates, to uncover the secret of his forgotten past.
What is the true identity of the mysterious man called Aethos, and why does he know so much about Rayche?

In the game, you will control the character of Rayche and guide him through the trials ahead. His personality will be based entirely on your decisions in a choice-driven story that will hopefully reflect you, both as a person and as a player.
You will also be helped and hindered by many other characters, each with their own unique personalities to interact with, and maybe even develop a relationship? With the in-game dialogue choices, you decide.

Characters: (Minor gameplay spoilers!)

Rayche
7wBWtMR.pnghtzbGs8.png

Rayche is the hero of this story, and is controlled by the player.
Rayche's personality is entirely determined by the player's choices. He is like an empty canvas on which you can can paint a unique and exciting player character. This is decided by the game's dialogue choices. Whenever Rayche would say something, you can choose what he says from a multitude of options, allowing you to essentially customize Rayche to your preferences, thus affecting the story.

Larissa
Ur9eU2t.png01tBs6h.png

Larissa is Rayche's best friend, and they have been friends for many years.
While Larissa maintains a cold exterior, deep down she cares for Rayche deeply, and wishes they could always be together.
It is unknown whether Larissa actually likes Rayche, but maybe if you make the right choices you can find out...?

Alysia
OGMPVHm.pngWX0foGP.png

Alysia is a friend of Rayche and is very close with Larissa.
More details on her will be added later.

Progress:

I am slowly making progress with the game, and new versions will be released very so often, maybe every week or two, when I have finished a new section.

You can expect the full version anytime next year (2017), I doubt it'll be done this year at this rate.

Download/Play:

The game demo is available to play on any device with a compatible web browser by clicking here -> http://jackus.ml/TempJourn
However if you would prefer to play offline, Windows and Mac OS X downloads are available. These offline versions may encounter different issues to the online version, so please state which version you are playing before reporting any bugs.

Note for the web version:
The web version will be updated almost every time I make a change to the project, due to how quick it is to upload changes.
Due to this, there may be a few quirks only on the web version, though I try to keep it stable. Also if you have an issue with the web version please tell me the time that you accessed it.

Note for Mac OS X version:
Please note I haven't actually tested this since I don't have a mac, I just exported with MV and threw it up on Google Drive. If it doesn't work, consider using the web version in your browser for now. Some feedback on how the Mac OS X version performs would be greatly appreciated.

Android versions will be added later on and the updates for them will be less frequent due to the hassle involved in exporting.
While supported by MV, exporting to iOS requires a Mac, which I currently do not have, so they cannot be provided yet.
However on both devices, accessing the web version in Chrome/Firefox should work.

I gave it a try (used the web version to test MV's web accessory, quite nice).

Not to fire shots right when you come out the door, but I don't think you can beat the first area. I tried twice and died both times. The second time I got to the guy in front of the market, and then got a random encounter that killed me. You can't run from any of the encounters, at least what my playthrough told me.

It seems to be a start at least, but I'm not really sure what to say about it.

Stupid question but have you equipped the swords in the chests?

You also have a skill which is good for taking out enemies.

You should be able to run, press X in the battle.

That area is defientely doable, I play it all the time and I got some people to playtest it.

Then again balancing isn't my strong suit so i'll take a look.

Thanks for the feedback! ^^

Running always failed for me. Enemies also always attack first, so I assume the character's don't have enough agility. Even with both swords equipped and grabbing both potions, I still died. I imagine if it could be done, it'd be on the luck of not getting too many random encounters, and even then it'd be a clutch win. I can't imagine what else there is to do.

The web version has been updated to Demo Version 0.1.1

Changelog:

  • Balancing changes made to make the fights easier and escapable.
  • Larissa now has a sword equipped at the start of the game.
  • Minor tile issues and typos have been fixed.
  • The end of the demo is now clearly marked.
  • Debug mode messages have been removed.

Also when you play the game please keep in mind how early in development this is, therefore I don't expect it to be perfect.

And yes there is only one area at the moment ;)

Updates for Mac OS X and Windows will follow as soon as they upload.

Minor changes may also be made to the web version without warning.

Also I won't make a changelog about every tiny thing in the future.

Yes actually that reminds me..

Can anyone who plays the Windows version tell me which windows you have? (Like, 7 or 8 or 10)

I suspect Windows 10 might be behind the no saving error, but I don't know since I don't have it.

I use Windows 10 and I could save fine enough using the browser version.

Notes;

- I was confused why there was an extra sword to be found. I assumed this was from before you gave Larrissa a starting sword, so I just sold the extra.

- I might recommend lowing the encounter rate/raise the amount of steps a bit. I got a battle after 2 steps when i first started, before I even got the first sword chest. (yay, fist fighting) and since there are no hidden treasures, it got tedious getting battles exploring for non-existent loot.

- Battle balancing was fine i think. I never had to heal once - though, I think maybe a small Inn or healer would help in the campsite for anyone who ran out of potions.

- I liked the "secret passageway" between the trees. I thought it was a weird shadow problem at first until it teleported me. i liked it, however when I transferred to the other side, my game started lagging to all hell. It was fine once I entered a battle an it restored itself, but it was kinda annoying taking laggy baby steps xD (this may be my PC though)

I look forward to the next parts :3

  • Yep Windows 10 should work fine in the browser version, it's the offline version with issues. With all versions, if you experience issues just use the web one.
  • Yes the extra sword is because Larissa didn't use to have one, although I think i'll keep it there because.. giving more items than needed it fun sometimes, to see if the player thinks to sell it.
  • No matter what I do the encounter rate is always out of whack, i'll try decreasing it again.
  • Battle balancing should be okay now, I might still some kind of healing place in the Market yeah.
  • Well that's an odd problem, i'll look into it.

Thanks for the feedback! ^^
