Rinoazelda 287 Posted July 8, 2016 Hi, everyone would like to show some screen of a city. I'm still a novice so I gladly accept all the advice, criticism and suggestions you can give me. screen1.pngscreen2.pngscreen3.png Those are awesome maps!!! Wait, you're a novice? Then if I compare you to me, I really do suck a lot at mapping... I can't do that. Very good maps. You sure have great mapping skills.
MoonShadow 2 Posted July 8, 2016 wow really? I thought I had combined a disaster . Anyway I just started and I'm learning slowly reading various tutorials on the internet. A short put another screen and improvements in the old ones.
+ Takeo212 1,079 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Red Areas I suggest looking into "shift mapping". Your road goes behind buildings, but they of course don't look like it. Shifting mapping (select a square/tile you want to copy and hold SHIFT and right click that tile and when playing the tile, hold SHIFT again and press left mouse to place the tile). This can help make autotiles look more natural and work exactly how you want. Blue Areas The building makes little sense in it's structure. This building is avoiding all the common sense your smaller houses have - that being if the walls stick out, the roof should follow. In this case, you made the wall stick out by an extra tile, but then made the roof go back a couple tiles making the front wall much bigger than the building itself, and from looking at it, it looks incorrect. There was the same problem on your second map. Green Areas I am unsure what the square part is at the end of the map. I thought it was part of the roof at first, but then when I closed more I just didn't know what it was. It just looks like a toss in square of roofing/flooring and looks kinda weird. Overall, I think your maps look good. They have a good mix of flooring (concrete and grass instead of a solid flooring) and a good amount of clutter and placement to make it more attractive to the player so overall, a good set of maps so far EDIT - You missed a piece of shadowing on the big buildings roof underneath the pipes. - As much as I like the tree clutter at the bottom, it's unrealist for so many trees to be growing on a full concrete area. Maybe add some grass patches to help indicate how the trees can grow maybe? Edited July 8, 2016 by Takeo212
