Smaller file size for an Android game?

Recommended Posts

I just recently bought a Tracfone Android after having a crappy little flip phone for many years, and I thought, "Hey, you should see if you can get MV games working on here!"

The first thing I noticed is that the Android/iOS output that you can select to export your game with doesn't actually make your game android ready. -_-

So, I went through all of this hullabaloo (hopefully someone will find this helpful) in order to convert my exported Android game into an .apk file.

Alright! So my .apk file is ready. First question: Is there an easier way to make my game Android ready?

Also, I noticed that when I transfer files from my computer to my Android, it kind of disappears (excluding music and video files, which have a pre-made folder I can put them in.) Second question: Where the hell does it go?

Lastly, I tried to transfer my .apk file, and it was faaaar too big for my android. How is a 1 map RPG Maker MV tester game 300 MB and a 3D - ish game like Alpaca World HD only 40 MB?? Third question: Is there a way I can condense my file a bit more?

Thanks for reading!

I'd spend more time looking though the internet for answers, but I only have so much time on my MV demo, and I don't want to invest in MV yet.

No.

Your phone should have a file manager app (If not download one off the play store) where you can browse to and select the .apk file, which should let you install it.

  1. You should have an option when exporting to strip unused files.
  2. Inside your MV folder should be a folder called "BaseResource_Compressed" (I don't know if the trial has it, check.) , I would use those resources instead since they have much lower file sizes.

Thank you, Jackus! I'll take a look through my MV folder for that compressed thingy. As for the exporting option to strip unused files, I didn't see it before (I was very sure to check for extra options), but I'm hellbent on getting this to work on my phone if I'm going to buy the program. After all, I have no other way to test my games out.

But yeah... I'll see what happens and come back with hopefully helpful answers.

I had a post similar to this recently. I was looking for ways to optimize games from MV for mobile use. I am hoping to do a tutorial on this sometime. MV prepares for mobile but doesn't exactly make you an .apk file. Follow the steps in the guide to do that or use the Intel XDK. Also make sure your phone is in developer mode. When you save your game's output file make sure your check the box to exclude unused files. You could also manually delete all the unused files in your game's folders before the output as well.

One thing I noticed from putting an early demo of my game on my phone is that the audio doesn't loop properly, there is considerable lag, and touching the screen can be difficult at times. RMMV is a great program and the company gave us some great features but they could still do so much more for us! Good luck. :)
