Streaming Games

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I think I'd like to give streaming a go sometime but I don't really know much about it. I think I'd probly use livestream(?) since I don't like that Twitch requires joining to talk; is there perhaps a better one to use?

Is there any general advice for ensuring a stream runs smoothly or tips to make it more interesting?

I think I'd probly just stream from my Steam backlog (currently playing God Eater and Stardew Valley) but if people would prefer me to play their games or RM games in general I wouldn't mind.

I think streams can be eh due to timezones and stuff to be honest.

I've missed alot of streams on this site due to time differences/work schedule, so maybe making a youtube channel that you can upload streams to would be good?

Once you stream, you then upload that stream to a "Tarq Plays" channel, or something and that would let us go back and watch gameplays we missed?

I think this is more beneficial to people who request there game to play though.

Overall, I would love to see you play some games ;) it would just depend if I actually catch them or not :/

You're right about timezones; I'd normally only catch the end of Chaosians and Izu's streams unfortunately. If I have a good couple of streams I could set up a regular time to do so, I guess. Luckily we're in the same timezone so you wouldn't have too much trouble catching it, I hope.

Hmm, a youtube channel is something I hadn't considered. Tbh, I'm not really into Lets Plays; I only think these would be interesting to watch if you want to discuss or display specific things about the games, rather than just watch a blind playthrough of a game. What appeals to me about a stream is the social aspect, and it could suck for the video if I'm frequently stopping to chat.

But, yeah, it is a good idea for playing requests. Probly need to get a mic though.

Yep, the timezone is an issue for me as well.

Most of members here stream around 4:00AM for me, which is kinda inconvenient.

Besides, it's kinda hard for me to find some free time, so I'd prefer being able to watch something whenever I'd like to.

Doing both is a nice solution - making streams in general and uploading these to, for example, YT channel for those, who didn't manage to watch the stream.

As for the idea itself - of course it's nice!

That very, very slightly would encourage members to focus on their projects, so that they could ask you for giving them a try. ~ Always something 'extra' for finishing the project. :3

Well I tried doing a closed practice stream last night and D: so much to take in. I'm too young to already be outmoded by technology!

I don't think my desktop is going to be able to handle it which is a bit of a surprise; I can screen capture well enough so perhaps the packaged software for livestream is just really inefficient? Either way, CPU was over 80% without running games and when I did they dropped to about 20-25 fps.

Since you two seem more interested in a YT channel I've started working on a video for that instead. Wont really be LP's though, just me chatting about design and reviewing probably. Still happy to take requests for members games though.

Again, if anyone can shed some light on streaming from a technical standpoint and offer any advice on running a good stream when it gets going then that would be greatly appreciated.

So, this is the video that left me very salty after MovieMaker broke the other day.

For now, I think I'm going to give up on the whole thing. I put a lot of effort into recording and editing the footage and voiceover and, while it wouldn't take me as long to redo it, I just feel very negative about it right now.

It wasn't a complete waste; I learned some new things and used some software I don't have much reason to otherwise. I did genuinely enjoy doing it but, like anything, it just takes so long to make anything worthwhile. For now, games :)
