INTRODUCTION

NetherQuest (NQ) is a marathon-paced, open-world RPG set on a small planet in a fictional universe. The game features a tactical battle system and a unique, immense NPC and journal system. The game was created with RPGMakerVX and has been in production for a number of years now.

THE STORY

WINTER'S END

In the aftermath of the continent's greatest war, there was a golden age of commerce and production. Ships began sailing where the war vessels once held dominion. Trade between the seventeen nations was more fruitful than any time in the land's history. The new emperor, a peaceful but courageous scholar from the south, created a governing structure like none the world had ever seen. Under its democratic system, representatives from all the world's settlements met in annual meetings called 'Autumn Circles'. They shook hands, brought each other gifts, and created pacts as to enrich the lives of the people for whom they had sworn their duty. In just a few short years, the blood-trenched streets of the cities, where war horses and their riders once clashed with iron bludgeons and cloud-line-silver blades, had become busy with their populations committed to day-long endeavors. People were waving at one another and smiling again. And their new, beloved emperor was most often the subject of their cheerful babble.

Then, on a brisk winter's end morning, the emperor fell ill.

Something terrible had risen.

THE ORIGIN OF ANGUISH

Hope is born of anguish.  When the heart is broken, when love is lost, hope is the deliverance of those who are broken.  On hope, rides courage; on courage, the will to alter the course of time.

A divine presence had descended upon the hour, and the spirit hand reached down from the heavens.  Chosen because the world was broken, selected at what seemed random, complete strangers were lifted away by those divine fingers and brought together on a remote beach along the western shore.  Some were sure they had heard a great voice at that very moment.  Others, too stunned to speak, were stricken with an uneasy feeling just before it happened--just before the godking Makarai made them his heroes.

For though there was a plight on the horizon, and an era of mortal strife at hand, the godking had been weeping.  His holy eye had watched the promise erode from the continent like a canyon stone.  In his anguish, a fragment of hope found its origin.

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

In NQ, you take the role of the heroes.  You can start with anywhere from 2 to 8 characters, and you get to build them yourself.   You can choose from 15 classes, be it Dwarf, Wizard, or the dimwitted, but crafty, Oaf.  You alter their look and choose their continental race.

THE WORLD

The world of NQ  consists of 17 nations having about 30 villages, towns, and cities.  The continent which houses these nations drifts alone on a small planet.  For about the past century, the continents nations have fallen under the rule of a unifying government.  The 3 races of NQ are well-integrated and people from all three live as neighbors in nearly every settlement on the continent.  There is no grave difference in appearance of the races.  The distinguishing aspects of each rely solely on their cultural values and traditions.

THE FOLE:

The Fole are the people of the north.  They have short names, consisting of four letters most often.  Fole people are adept at living and prospering in the mountains.  Fole have a deep tribal ancestry and were the first race to gain complete control over the continent.

mqDKLbK.png

THE GRAY:

The Gray have the greatest population on the continent and are the current rulers of the land.  Despite this fact, the real control is held by the most loyal of the Gray people, those who reside in Capital Gray's walls.  Collectively, these individuals are known as the Gray Regime.

SRVN50P.png

THE VANIAN:

Vanian people have the least political control and the smallest stake in their rightful claims to the continent.  They have strong faith and are well-educated people.  The majority of Vanian people are found within the southern half of the continent, with most living on the grounds of the Palace of Van.  For many centuries, Vanian ancestors were ruled by a royal family, whose lineage is still alive and well in present times.

FAMOUS FACES

Wkex2mx.png

SUPHEUS:

Supheus is the scholar-turned-statesman who was responsible with bringing down the Fole during the Revolution.  His guidance led the Gray Regime to taking over the entirety of the continent and ushered in the golden age and a democratic society.  His death was the turning point from peace to rising tensions between the Gray and their old enemies.

YPKCxEI.png

LASSIAN:

Lassian was a great general in the Regime's military during the Revolution that toppled the Fole.  He is a tactical genius and as rugged a warrior as the world has ever seen.  After the passing of Supheus, Lassian rose to power and subsequently began building up the fortification and infrastructure critical to maintaining Gray control.

vLnm9D5.png

AGMI:

Agmi is the closest thing the Fole people have to a leader.  He is a soft-spoken man who studied and taught at the southern university.  He befriended Supheus following the Revolution and shares a similar political view as his fallen friend.  Agmi is a gifted orator and struggles in the current days to find common ground with Lassian.

IXESPERUS:

Ixesperus is the princess of Van.  She is the daughter of the Vanian Queen Vina and her late husband, Kruff.  Ixesperus is a free spirit, but harbors a vengeful eye.  She stays out of the politics and searches for a greater purpose and for things that have a connection to her heart instead.

hb6tib2.png

NERU:

Neru was a Gray adventurer who was known to craft and ride on magic carpets.  Neru is from a small town in the central Heartland and has never had a dull day in his life.  His love for adventure has driven him to each of the 17 nations.  He has become a folk hero and legend to children from all over the world.

Pwom6fB.png

DUFUTA:

Dufuta is a mysterious mage who is said to reside in the far north in a dungeon beneath a petrified tree.  He is considered to be a myth by many people.Dufuta's ability with magic is often discussed by both believers and non-believers, however, it remains unclear just how exaggerated those tales are.

RETHRICK:

Rethrick is an old cleric who lives at the head of the world's longest river.  He is reclusive and seldom comes out of his chambers.  He is thought to be the greatest alchemist and healer in all the 17 nations.   He is said to take orders directly from Makarai.
