khas awesome light effects with variable timer issue

Recommended Posts

So here's the basics of my problem. I have two common events that make a player lantern work. The first is activated by the item and the second is activated by the first. I have a timer for how long the light lasts made from variables because actual timers bother me by showing the numbers and not being able to use more than one at once. Every time I use the item that activates the first common event however, the game crashes and gives me an error. I have provided screen shots of both common events and the error. Any and all help will be appreciated. Thank you :)

EDIT: I forgot something important: http://www.rpgmakercentral.com/topic/1003-khas-awesome-light-effects/

EDIT: So it turns out that it's not a problem with the variables at all, it just doesn't want to work with the item

I haven't tried setting up what you have done but My guess is that your re-applying the lantern to the player every time.

My game has the lantern given to the player and shown. Then when leaving the area it is not shown and going back it is shown.

I do not think the timer is the issue, just you assigning the same lantern to the player over and over when using the lighter.

Do you have other light sources that the player will have? No, then apply the lantern to the player upon receiving the lighter and then set on and off according to your timer.

I literally use this exact same type of thing in my game to make a lantern that uses fuel which depletes over time. I just put two events on each of the maps I want the lantern out on.

You're definitely going about this the right way with variables because I've got this system working in my game the exact same way.
