kaz 1,338 Posted March 3, 2017 As our GAME PRODUCTION is non specific you can post games by any maker. Although we still have support for RPGMaker Ace and MV we also have support for other makers it therefore follows that any maker can be posted in the Game Production area. Of course you still have to follow the game submission rules,
Kayzee 4,032 Posted March 5, 2017 And by any maker do you mean explicitly to the [insert genre here]Maker series of products, or to any type of programing-not-required game design software, or to any type of game creation at all?
RoooodWorks 165 Posted March 5, 2017 I think it means any maker that makes games, like game maker, gg maker, ig maker, etc

Kayzee 4,032 Posted March 5, 2017 (edited) But what is a 'maker'? That's still rather vague. Is it only counted if it has 'maker' in the title, despite that for example 'Game Maker' and 'RPG Maker' are created by different companies and made for different markets? Is it only counted if it has a built in IDE with tools? Does Unity 3D count? Does Stencyl count? Does Ren'Py count? Does Unreal Engine or Source even count? I will assume it won't go as far to include programing languages without any design tools or design tools without any game engine. Unless we want to be another TIGSource? Probably a moot point since I don't imagine non-RPGMaker made games will be that common here. Edited March 5, 2017 by KilloZapit
+ Takeo212 1,079 Posted March 6, 2017 My assumption was the term maker refers to a game making program. I also assume it still restricts to a 2D program rather than 3D to keep everything still similar.
+ Chaosian 617 Posted March 7, 2017 Hmmm, and here I was thinking it was just Theory and Development that we wanted to keep generic. It's nice to see some branching out, though I would also like some clarification as to what exactly the upper limit of the new guidelines are. Is Wolf RPG Editor a "Maker"? Is Construct a "Maker"? How about UE4? You could make a 100 hour epic in all of those without writing a single line of code.

Purple Phantom 453 Posted March 7, 2017 What about Unity?
Tarq 746 Posted March 7, 2017 Right now we're still in discussions about how many and which engines we want to support in terms of dedicated areas. But for Game Production everything is fair game currently. Tagging which engine is used is going to be a bigger deal though.
Rikifive 3,411 Posted March 8, 2017 We're aiming to fully support few other common engines. Currently, we're considering adding Game Maker, Unity and Unreal. By fully supporting I mean having their own forums for discussions, programming related questions and such as well as tutorials, like RM currently have. As for less common ones and not at all (programming on your own) - most likely you'd be able to post them as well in game library. Everything is still under construction and subject to change. If you have any suggestions ~ feel free to share them with us. For example, which software and what kind of sections for it would you like to see? We obviously can't support all possible software and languages, because that would be a mess - please think of the commonly used ones. There may be the 'other' category for the rest, though still, it's subject to change.
Kayzee 4,032 Posted March 8, 2017 I totally agree that 'supporting' a whole bunch of game makers and engines would be a huge mess, plus I am not even sure how many people here would post a lot of topics in the other forums. I do think it might be good to just make generic forums for game design and coding. Heck, you already have the "Theory and Development" forum there, why not just make a "Coding and Refactoring" forum in the same category for more generic coding advice or coding advice in contexts outside any supported engine? Maybe one for "Tools and Tricks" for using different image manipulation software and music composition software and the like. But eh.

+ Asharonapaul 276 Posted March 28, 2017 why no unreal?
Kayzee 4,032 Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) As far as I know, Unreal is a game engine not a game maker. What's the difference? Probably that a maker has a fully integrated toolkit in one program and creating new games doesn't really require recompiling the engine. Also probably has difference licensing terms.
