races Anthropomorphic Animal Races (suggestions)

Recommended Posts

I've already decided for a gamepad controller, 16 buttons.

Seeing it as a PS controller, it goes as follows:

D-PAD: Movement

Cross: Talking to NPCs/taking decisions.

Circle: Cancel

Square: Selected skill 1

Triangle: Selected skill 2
L1: Item Skill 1

L2: Item Skill 2

R1: Race Skill 1

R2: Race Skill 2

Select: Brings up the "Skill selection menu"*

Start: Menu

(No analog sticks)

*Skill Selection Menu: Here you can choose what skills square, triangle L1, L2, R1 and R2 buttons use. You can pick from the following list:

Weapon Skills

Item Skills (Locked to L1 and L2 buttons)

Race Skills (Locked to R1 and R2 buttons)

The Skill Selection Menu will be a hard thing to do, but is what i want, is the most reasonable idea.

Before I start rattling off random animals and skill again, which animals have you decided upon so far? Start building with those. The ones later to come will be able to fill any gaps in combat/field skills.

I don't want to make official announcements yet, because, it's all under development right now, and some things may change.

I'm going to make a "Game in progress" thread anytime soon (no working demo). So, maybe you should wait for it.

But- but I wanna make skills now! Why are you so cruel?  :(

Kidding!  :D I shall wait until some of the races are concrete.

That sounds pretty reasonable I guess as control schemes go... maybe not the best but not the worse either. I almost wonder if something either a bit more freeform or a bit more standardized would be better.

Honestly I would find it hard to find it difficult to come up with 8 skills for 20 or 25 races. Maybe it might be better to come up with cool skills and decide what races fit with the skills?

Like:

Jump - Jumps over gaps (Frog, Bunny, Kangaroo)

Tongue - Grabs items from a distance (Frog, Gecko)

Then you could count up and decide the races based on that?

^^Also could work. Gimme the process, and I'll make it work! I'm really good at making the square peg fit into the round hole.  :D

Alright then *cracks knuckles*

... ... ... ... ... i got nothin'...

Grind-

Field- Grinds boulders to dust. Battle deals Earth damage to a target. If need be, you can have it apply a debuff or state, too.

Beast of Burden-

Field- Pushes boulders or other heavy objects. Battle- Applies a Cover state to take damage for the party.

NOTE: For field skills, I'm going to try and create more than one way to deal with obstacles. That will give you a couple routes to go, or even feature both.

Frost-

Field-Freezes patches of water to create passable tiles.  Battle- Deals Ice damage. maybe applies a Freeze or Chill Status

Drought-

Field- Dries patches of water to make passable tiles. Battle- Deals HP and MP damage to multiple targets.

Glide-

Field- Glides across gaps.  Battle- Either boost AGL (if that's used in your system) or applies Haste to the user.

Bolt Dash-

Field- Quickly dashes across gaps.  Battle- Quickly dashes and hits multiple enemies

Miasma-

Field- Causes plants to die to clear pathways. Battle- Spew a toxic cloud that damages and Poisons enemies

Entropy-

Field- Same as above.  Battle- Drains HP from a target. Maybe applies debuffs, too.

OR

Wither-

Field- Same as above. Battle- Applies debuffs to a target (up to you to decide which)

Slash-

Field- Slashes and destroys objects.  Battle- Damages w/ a chance to cause Bleed.

Bash-

Field- Same as above only w/ smashing.  Battle- Deals damage w/ a chance to Stun.

Burrow-

Field- Digs in certain spot and pop us elsewhere. Basically the same as pipes in Mario. Battle- The ATB version of Dig in Pokemon.

Teleport-

Field- There's not another good way to use dig spots again (at least not as teleport areas) so teleportation! The hard part will be explaining why you can only teleport between specific points. My recommendation would be: Cuz magic. For any follow questions; Cuz shut up.  :P or perhaps the character activates  magic glyphs that serve as the teleportation points.

In battle- Either teleport out of the battle to safety or making the user dodge any incoming attack for a short period (or maybe just one dodge).

Charge!-

Field- Quickly runs across the field to get past mines or spike floors unharmed. Battle- Charges into enemy(s) causing Knockdown and/or Stun

Dash-

Field- Same as above. Battle- Applies Haste to user.

Double Kick-

Field- Kicks with hind legs to knock over trees and stone pillars to make bridges. Battle- Same thing but to someone's face  :)

Maybe add a Stun or Confuse state.

Cleave-

Field- Same as above, but with claws. Battle- Powerful slicing attack. Lowers DEF.

Spark-

Field- If there any metal structures, it sends a current along a circuit to open gates/doors. If not, A giant plant or clump of vines acts as the gate/door. The user sends the current through conductive vines to cause the plant to create an opening.

Battle- Shocks the hell out of an enemy. Maybe adds a Shock or Paralyze state.

Can't really think of a good second way to do this one.

Ignite

Field- Lights torches. You know you wanna have  Zelda style torch lighting puzzle!  :D

Battle- An enemy bursts into flames dealing immediate damage plus damage over time.

Ember-

Field- Also lights torches. Battle- Party buff to raise MDF.

Spring- (for our serpentine friends)

Field- Coils up like a spring to bounce up to high places.  Battle- Either works liek Fly/Bounce in Pokemon or Jump in Final Fantasy.

Leap (for bunnies, rams, goats)

Field- Same as above but with legs. Battle The opposite of what you choose fro Spring.

Roar-

Field- Either scares away creatures/NPC's blocking paths or if enemies are visible on screen, attempts to scare them away to avoid battles or makes it so enemies begin the battle with a Fear state or debuffs.

Battle- Terrifies enemies. Either a Fear state or debuffs.

Charm-

Field- Either sweet talks NPC's into moving or if enemies are visible on screen, charms them to avoid battles or causes enemy(s) to start with Charm state or debuffs.

There's a bunch. I have other ideas, but not time. I'll edit this later.

Growth-

Field- Grows vines to climb. Battle- Party buff to ATK and/or MAT.

Shower-

Field- Rains to make vines to climb. Battle- HP Regen for the party (maybe an initial heal, too. Or removes some states/debuffs)

Thank you very much!

EDIT:

30 Races confirmed! Some of them also have gender variety, such as the Lion, the Chicken and the Bull. There is also species variety, like the Bear, the polar bear and the panda; also the Tiger, the Panther and the Jaguar share the same race, the Snake and the Cobra, etc.

Well, I have:

Crow, raven, eagle, swan, snowy owl, elf owl, and also arctic foxes.

Crows and ravens normally have a higher IQ than humans, so techs like investigations and searching would be a strong virtue. Eagles are known for strength and brute force, thus they can be the knight/warrior aspect of your game. Swans are very graceful, and could work as a theif/rogue. Also, they make for some very interesting tactics, like seduction and trickery. The owls are like the crow and raven, but a slightly lower in the smarts. However, they can hear and see quite well, so clues and puzzles where you need to rely on both of those would be somewhere of their prowess. the arctic foxes can utilize very many tactics, and you'd need to figure out what you'd want to use. O_O I'm not a mammal person, I'm a bird man XD

@Lonesqueso

You did it man, you covered every aspect of the puzzles i been working on. Some of these skills are for scrolls or for the Mage, but they are going to be in the game.

Thank you very much.

@Rezanta

I've already decided on all the races you said. And some of them are not going to be included in the game as playable, although they maybe make an appearance as NPCs.

Thanks to you too.

It's the perfect time to say that every one who helps in the game, gets a NPC with his/her name. (unless is something weird with a lot of XxxNamexXX :D)

Do you have enough skills to fill most of the races? I could try and come up with passive skills for you if you want, though some might be fairly obvious.

Am I gonna be an NPC too? :o I know fairies exist... For the record I tend to prefer going by 'Kayzee' in cameos and such, cause 'KilloZapit' is really silly. Then again I have been giving my fairy name as 'Kayzee Lalee'lay Lalilulelo' lately which is also fairly silly, but a more respectable fairy-like silly. :P

@KilloZapit

Thanks, but i've already covered that aspect of the game, i will be very silent about the project for some time, cause i need to come up with part of the story.

Every one who helps in the game is going to be represented with an NPC :D

You might wanna just go with "Queso" for mine. Lonequeso is also silly.

CCHHHAAARRR! CHAARR!

No, Charizard, you can't have a cameo.

CHARRR?

Cuz copyright laws.

CHAR CHARA CHHHAAARR CHHAARRR CHHARR!

Please, do not murder everyone at Nintendo and reduce their HQ to ash. I really don't wanna have to gather the dragon balls again to clean up another one of your messes.

CHAAAAAR!

...Just..here... have some whiskey.

*glug* glug* *gulp* *gulp*

Chaaaaarrrrr...
