Scarlet Flames 2 Posted May 31, 2017 Roleplaying Games are full of these - Stereotypes of RPG Classes that we have all heard of and seen of before a million times - Knights that use Swords, Mages that cast Elemental Magic, Elves that are Archers. I am looking into breaking these stereotypes in one of my games. I want to hear Unique ideas from various people on Character Classes or Archetypes or whatever you would like to call them, While still remaining faithful to the default RTP Resources as much as possible (What i mean is nothing too weird and surreal that the Imagined "Character Class" can't be made in RPG Maker with default RTP Resources). Any of your Ideas are welcome. Mention your idea in this Example format : Class : Pirate Brawler Weapon : Cursed Gauntlets Passive : The Pirate Brawler being an Agile Fighter punches 2 times for every Basic Attack Ability : His special Ability is releasing the energy sealed up in his Cursed Gauntlets to Curse a Random Enemy with an Extremely Powerful Bleeding Status Ailment that bleeds the enemy to death in 2 ~ 3 Turns. He also gains Increased Critical Rate for a few turns when this Ability is triggered. Unique Gear : He uses a Chain Mail Armor meant to defend against Melee and Ranged attacks. He also wears a Magic Amulet that he won from another Pirate, That grants him Immunity to Water elemental Spells while granting him Bonus Attack.
PhoenixSoul 1,404 Posted May 31, 2017 Interesting... Class : Sabre Knight Clothing/Armor : Plate, Chain, Reflex, Arm Bracket Shield, Cloak, Goggles Weapon : Epée, Claymore, Katana Passive : The passive ability of the Sabre Knight allows them to wield heavier weapons and use heavier armors with greater ease, allowing for swifter movement. Ability : Aldhuitz: Allows for sensing of the enemy's weakest point, enabling the Sabre Knight to execute critical hits far more often. Unique Gear : The ensemble of the Sabre Knight is very intuitive; one can disguise just about every attribute of their persona, even their gender...
lonequeso 1,921 Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) These always fun. Let's see... Warrior! Nope. Black Mage! . . . Focus, Lonequeso, focus. Class: Seer Wep/Armor: Staves/Robes Passive: Higher than average chance to evade attacks and critical hits Skillz: A balance of buffs and elemental damage. To name a few: Prediction: Automatically evades an attack on that turn (with a cooldwon, of course. Veil: Increases parties Magic Evasion Harsh Winter- Deals Ice damage to a single enemy with a chance to apply status (chill, freeze, paralyze, etc, etc.) Harvest- HP Drain: Attempts to halve an enemy's remaining HP. Unique Gear: Headdress- Increases Magic Evade?DEF and gives a slight boost to resist Elemental damage. or Scrying Staff: A special staff with a crystal orb adorning the top. Can be customized via enchantments to alter it's properties. It is the only weapon the character ever wields or can wield. Power either increases as the character levels or via upgrades. Class: Drunken Master (aka Me =p) Wep/Armor: Claws, Knuckles/Robes Passive: Higher than average chance to evade attacks and critical hits Skillz: A skil to give him a chance to counter attacks, a skill to increase his EVA, CEV, most attacks deal damage and debuff, Also a skill involving grain alcohol and a match flamethrower style. =D Unique Gear: Gords. Different gords contain different alcohol which cna alter everything from passive ex-params, sp- params, state/debuff resistance, and elemental resistance. I have zero expectation that you'll use this, but if you do, you'll be my hero! Class: 50 Shades of Grey Mage (yet no magic skills. go figure.) Wep/Armor: Whips, Paddles/Leather (light) armor Passive: Immune to ATK debuff or attacks have a slight chance to Charm. Skillz: Crack: Strikes with a whip or paddle to deal damage and lower ATK. Ball gag: Inflicts Silence on a enemy. Command: Attempts to Charm a foe. Bondage: Immobilizes a foe Blindfold: Blinds a foe Wax: Pours hot wax on a foe. Deals Fire damage with a chance to Burn. Unique Gear: Black Leather: When attacked with a psychical attack, there is a chance the user's ATK will be lowered. But wait! There's more! Class: Berserker Wep/Armor: Two handed weapons/Light, Medium Armor Passive: Immune to Stun, but slightly more vulnerable to Confuse. Skillz: Self buffs and some debuffs. Lots of powerful single and multi-target attacks. The trade off is they have a higher than average cost so it's easy to burn through through your stamina if you're not careful. Unique Gear: War Horn. An accessory that can be used in battle to raise the entire party's attack and stamina for 5 turns. 8 turn cooldown, and has three charges that must be replenished by doing.. ..stuff. Considering the character is getting a free skill, there's got to be limitations of some sort or the class will be overpowered. This one is becoming more common, but it's one of my favorites: Class: Necromancer (cuz necromancers are cool! ) Wep/Armor: Staves/Robes Passive: All damaging skills and restore a small amount of mana. Unique Gear: Tome of the dead. Goes in an accessory or maybe shield slot. If the character kills an enemy, a small amount of HP is restored. Skillz: Hp/Mana drains. Good ol' demon/undead summoning. Debuffs debuffs debuffs. A couple fun ideas: You may want to change the name of the first one as I'm ripping it straight from Dragon Age. This would be the turn based, RPG Makerese version: Walking Bomb- Applies a state that deals slip damage at the end of each turn for several turns. If the target dies while the state is applied, they explode dealing damage to all other (or maybe three or four random) troop members. If you can get this next one to work, I'd love to know how I've been asking, but haven't gotten an answer. Raise the Dead: Targets Dead enemies (this is the hard part). has a chance (something like 33%-50%) chance to revive dead enemies and restores some health. It inflicts a Charm state and after two turns they die again. Class: Boxer Weapon/Armor: Boxing Gloves/Trunks -That's it. Yes, that means he runs around the entire time with no shirt on. I hope he doesn't have to go anywhere cold. Brrr! Passive- Small chance to counter incoming attacks Skillz: Self buffs and lots of punches. Attack skills often can cause debuffs and states. Some elemental attacks i.e. Fire Punch. Knockout Punch: A bit inaccurate, but a strong attack with a chance to insta kill. Unique Gear: Belt of Champions- Grants a passive ability, Heart of a Champion. When an attack would reduce his HP to zero, there's a small chance he will not be KO'd and be restored to 10% max HP. It will only work once per battle. Class: Vampire- Hmm? Could you trust an ally that drinks human blood to survive? There many Vampire party members out there so you have a pretty open book as far as equips and skills. For this one, I think I'll go Warrior/Mage hybrid. Rogue type would work well, too. Hell, why not all three? Weapon/Armor: Shortswords/Robes Passive: Hmm... Got a few ideas- Slight resistance to Physical attacks/ Immune to Poison/Immune to Insta-Kills/Recovers more quickly form status effects/ slightly resistant to debuffs/ maybe a few of those, but weak against Holy and/or cannot be healed w/ potions or Heal skills. Skillz: Transform: Can transform back and forth between bat and human forms. Bat form raises attack strength, evasion, and agility, but lowers MHP, and defenses. Of course, there will be some skills that can only be used in one from or the other. Blood Suck(both forms): The character's only method of healing. HP drain attack. Whirlwind (bat): Magic Wind damage to all enemies. Darkness(human): This skill is actually already in the database. Magic attack. Deals Dark damage to all enemies. Mesmerize(human) Puts an enemy to sleep. Screech(bat) Lowers three random enemy's DEF. Unique Gear: Cape of something something. Small chance to Reflect magic attacks. Stat and passive bonuses still apply in bat form. Edited June 2, 2017 by lonequeso

SpuddyFerret 90 Posted June 2, 2017 My stepbrother, who is a professional games designer once told me this: Learn the rules to break the rules. I think it would be cool if you didn't have a level system, rather you got weaker in a game because of something that happened in the story. Maybe you use your life-force in combat or use a party of aggressive animals with elemental powers which can be trained individually to your accord. Games like Undertale and Pokémon, as mentioned just, did this and did well. It sucks that it costs money to hire a programmer
