I am trying to set my starting gold; here are my parameters

New Event> trigger is parallel proccess> Contents > Page 1 > Control Switch > Operation ON > New EVent page > blank > Checked first switch under Conditions

my gold still stays at zero what am I doing wrong?

Not sure how you're trying to set the gold since you did not mention the command add gold, but; 

when you start a new game, on the first map where you start you would make the event autorun > command give gold > command self switch A on. second page would be blank with self switch A checked. done
