Deleting Irrelevant Topics

Recommended Posts

I was just curious, is there a way for a user to delete their own old/irrelevant topics? I've search all through different options and come up with nothing. Are my eyeballs just overlooking a button hidden somewhere?

We don't delete topics. I think someone said it messes up database entries or something similar.

What we can do is archive topics so that they're out of the way, just report the topic so we can locate it.

Tbh, I doubt there's much reason to be overly concerned with whatever the old topic is though.

There's no need to delete* old threads, unless they're completely empty or useless. Remember, that there also are users' posts in here and they've put their time and effort to reply/answer to questions, so getting rid of them wouldn't be really nice. Besides, you never know if somebody else will find something useful in there in future. That's why we don't allow members to delete their threads, because that could cause unexpected disappearances of content, that other members have posted. However, if the topic is completely irrelevant and you really would like to get rid of it, just report the first post in the thread and ask for its removal*. You can also message the staff, we don't bite- -- at least I think we don't. :giggle:

* - yep, as @Tarq said, we don't permanently delete content, we archive instead. No need to worry though, archived content is not visible. It's just convenient to have an option to retrieve it when needed.

Thanks for the responses! Totally understand. One of the topics I wanted deleted was an old resource thread I made. I actually already deleted the resources from it, so it seemed silly having it still sit there. I plan to share any resources or art I may have via the gallery option from now on.

@Rikifive I'll shoot you a message with the topics I was thinking of having archived if you have the time to do so.

@Plague Hmm.. It's your choice, but be aware, that the gallery tends to get glitchy sometimes. Personally (and it seems that I'm not the only one) I've run into troubles with that feature in the past-- and it also scales your images to specific sizes, up to maximum I believe. I've increased the limit to 1920x1080, so I think it will scale images to that size (and additional few smaller formats as well), if they'll be bigger than that. Not sure about that though, because when I tried putting bigger images, it resulted in errors leading to blank images being posted instead. With that being said, I'd increase the limit further, but the gallery freaks out when you'll put images with relatively big filesize.

I think threads are easier to find and are more convenient to work with. Don't feel discouraged though, the gallery works, for the most part. I just wanted to let you know of its potential unexpected behavior. Both have their pros and cons. ;) Hmm.. Posting works in both wouldn't be a bad idea. :P Either way, feel free to report issues if you'll encounter any. I was toying with that glitch for a pretty long time and all I managed to discover is, that it tends to fail with big images. Perhaps putting "pls work properly" in the code would solve that problem. :giggle:

Sure, feel free to leave a message anytime. Heh, I guess I'm supposed to have the time, otherwise I'd be useless here. ;) Just kidding, no worries about that.
