Introduction

Hello dear community. I would like to introduce you to my current project. But first, I would note that I

come from Germany and my English is not the best so please forgive me a few (I hope so =D) mistakes in the following text.

The Game itself is currently also in german, but i will translate it after the german version is finished, because it doesnt have that much text at all.

Anyway, my game is called "Ragarokk - Bestiarium" and it is a very simple card game for the RPG Maker VX Ace. I started to work on this project at the end of 2011 and i want to release the first german Demo on Christmas this year, while the englisch Demo will follow in early 2014.

Please do not expect a profound card game like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh. I used the standard RPG Maker Ace battle system, so there is (sadly ;)) no unique battle system included. You can even call it a pseudo-card game if you want. ;)

The game also runs completely over pictures and the battle system, so there is no Map in the the game where you can walk on with a Character. Right now I have planned about 400 monster cards, 72 are already playable in the Demo.

In the beginning of the game the player has only 5 of them unlocked. The remaining cards must be won or unlocked by purchasing booster paks.

How to play

The players selects three monstercards from thier card album at the beginning of each match. These three monsters will fight then against the three

monsters of your enemy. The game will only have monster cards. So there are no spell/magic-cards you may know from other card games

like Yu-Gi-Oh or Magic. The battle will begin as soon as you have choosen your cards. I will explain more in the following Text.

The Cards

Right here you can see my design for the cards. Unfortunately I currently have only german versions of the images at hand. But I'll explain a little bit (German lessons for you, jeah ^ ^). I used a lot monsters from various Maker-RTPs,

but a friend of me has also created some unique monsters just for this game. It contains also "Guest-Monsters" from

various popular german RPG Maker Games like Velsarbor, Unterwegs in Düsterburg and of course Velsarbor (I think you already knew that).

examplecardsrvat3p5gos.png

On the top right part of the card you can see the lifepoints. The three numbers on the right side are standing for

Moon-Defense, Sun-Defense and agility. The German word on the bottom shows the class of

the card (Dragon, Human, Spirit, Demon, Angel, ...). Each card has a class and an element (fire, water, ...).

The class defined the special ability of the card. So for example demons can do pre-emptive strikes, while angels

can resurrect dead allies. The agility stands for the order in which the cards can operate.

Each card has also Skillpoints (SP) and Actionpoints (AP).

The SP will be fully charged at the start of each battle and can normally not be regenerated.

So if they are empty, the card can not use any Skills for the rest of the battle. Skills can't do damage to enemys.

They are there for buffs/debuffs and other things like that. Each card also has the ability "energy charge".

This ability gives the card 1 AP and can be used unlimited times and it is the only way to recieve AP during a fight. In principle, this ability is

similar to the Energy-Cards from the Pokemon TCG.

Actions will be paid with Actionpoints (AP). The number of AP starts as opposed to the SP in each

round at 0 and can only be increased by the above mentioned skill "energy charge". Actions can deal damage

to enemys and segmented as well into Moon-Type, Sun-Type and Star-Type.

The damage of actions is fixed and therefore it does not vary. The formula for the calculation of damages is simple,

it is just the strength of the Action minus Moon-Defense (if it is an Moon-Type) or Sun-Defense (if it is an Sun-Type).

Example: A moon typed Action has the strength of 70, the "Freya" card above has a Moon-Defense of 10.

So the damage is 70-10 = 60 (despite elemental weaknesses).

Star typed Actions can cause direct damage to the enemy. Defense values are not considered here.

The Battle System

Here you can see the battle system. It is the Yanfly Battle Ace-Script with a lot of my pictures and a few edits in it.

On the right side you can see your character (These "characters" are mostly only avatars. Thats because this game doesnt have a story so there is nothing to tell about the characters aswell) and the three cards you have choosen before, while the left side shows your current enemy and his/her cards. You can unlock a lot background pictures and unique battle music during your progress through the game. The tribals on this screen are animated (They are swinging in the wind).

The League-Mode

This game-mode is the main mode in Ragarokk. In this mode you have to play a whole season with leaderboards. Try to win the first place at the end of the season. This game mode has a New Game+ feature, so you can play this mode again with your previous unlocked cards and characters. This mode can be fully played in the Demo. Its already finished so far.

ragarokk29ap0sigejf.png

Choose your cards

Within this menu, you can choose your cards for the next battle.

ragarokk3jnum9vihxe.png

You can buy Booster-Paks with new cards. Each card has it own rarity, so a card with a star on the bottom right corner

does not shown up that much in a booster than a card with a circle (Common). There are currently five different rarities.

Opening a Booster

Bronze / Circle (Common)

Silver / Square (Uncommon)

Gold / Grey Star (Rare & holographic background)

Emerald / Green Star & Border (Very Rare & holographic background)

Diamond / White Star & Border & extended Showcase for the monster (Ultra Rare & holograpic background)

The big stars on the bottom of the picture shows you

a rating for the Booster-Pak. It is a simple thing. If you gain very rare cards by opening a Booster, your "Booster-Rating"

will greatly increase.

ragarokk4z8rn5xdiw1.png

Pick up your reward after a battle

After every fight you have the chance for a reward. It is mostly some money, experience Points or a chance for a really rare special Booster.

The list on the left shows you the results of all NPC-Character Fights, wich will be simulated and so on always differend. So every year you spend on the League-Mode will be have differend results on the leaderbords.

Oh, i am sorry about that. :*(

I have added an Credit-Section. This game has no Story, so there is unfortunately nothing to talk about. The characters are only a "Avatar" for the player, so there is no bio or something like that. I hope that this is okay so.

I wonder... those screens are in German, but your posting this in an English-Speaking forum.

Is there going to be an English version of this game? Because it looks pretty neat.

Kannst du vielleicht jetzt schon die Demo-Version in Deutsch zum Download bereitstellen?

Ich finds richtig gut! Freue mich schon auf das Spiel!

Since this is primarily an English-speaking community, you need to use English while on the forums.

Amazing. I really look forward to playing this.

And...you know, German actually looks nice on the cards (save the monster type, I suppose).

I wouldn't mind playing the german version and figuring it out on my own xD. Is that one out yet?

Hello. Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that you guys liked it. The Game is acutally not released, but i think it is not that far away.

But i have a few new pictures and also a new design for the cards.

New Card Design:

You can choose your cards before a match right here:

Adventure Mode: In this Mode you can play in a league. You can also unlock special cards, guest-characters, battle backgrounds, new battle music,...

ligatest7yqj1hlnp2.png

Contest Winner: I have startet a contest in an german forum a while ago where the users can send me an self-painted monster. The Winner gets an unique card design for his monster. It was really big, so i decided to split it into two parts (like Exodia from YuGiOh) ;)

And the last one are new booster packs.

You are right. This holo-sheet is the secret rare sheet from yugioh. ;)

Your custom one modeled the same way?

I found this sheet in the internet. I acutally dont know who create it.

Thank you. Some of these monster you mean are from the Samurai Add-On.

This is unique, I like it. It's been a while since i've seen something 'new'.

Thanks. =)

when will have a demo version?

I think it will take a while.

one more question, how did yuo make a system for aleatory cards in booster packs? i'm making a card game and i don't know a simple away to make it by events and i did'nt found any script

Jeah, it is a really big event, but it is not that hard.

Ok, a sample. Let me say we have a set of 45 cards. 10 of them are rar, 15 uncommen and 20 common.

Now we need Number X. Add for every rar card 3 points to Number X (so with 10 cards, X is 30), then add for every uncommen card 4 points (60) and for every common card 5 points (100). Now Number X is 30+60+100= 190.

I have taken an screenshot from my event. Actually, the 190 above is now 348 in this event, because i have more than 45 cards in this set.

You have to use the number based on your card set.

Just make an Control Variable with an random Number between 1-348 (change this to your number) - Line 2 in the picture.

It is not possible just to request every number, because then your event code will walk outside the box with this method and then you can not see it anymore. So you have to "split" it until the Else/Conditional Branches hit the right end of the box. I have splitted it at 96, 214 and 331.

So, card one from the set should be rar (Line 4-5, Monster called "Lavadrache", i have used 4 Points instead of 3 for a rar card).

What now follows, is just and request from your random number line above. For a example, your random number is 9.

Between 1-4, you gain the card "Lavadrache", between 5-8 Athena, But jeah, your number is 9, so you will recieve "Waldgott". After the event code have now found the right card, you have to add an switch (in my case self switch A) to jump to page 2. On this side, just copy the whole event code from page 1 and delete all Self Switch A Lines and add there an Self Switch B to gain your second card from the booster. Do that as long as you want (In my case i have 3 cards per Booster).

I hope you have understand it. It is not that easy to explain it in english. I can better explain in german. =)

In each booster that the player buy in the game, the player recives one card? in the case of the sample, the player get lavadrache or athena or waldgott?

The player will get three cards. After you recieve the first card, Self Switch A will be activate itself and it will bring you to page 2. On page 2 is an line where a new random number will be generated and so you will recieve the next card. So, for example the random number on the first page is 2, then your first card will be Lavadrache. On Page two your number is 16 and you will get Shiva. On the third page the number is 4, so the last card is also an Lavadrache.
