Blood Shadows: Knight of the King's Order

By: AlfaProject

NOTE: Things seen in this forum thread do not reflect the final results of the product.

-Story Synopsis-

Sir Elijah, A Knight of the King’s Order, is sent to Focus Isle to stop a cult, called the Blood Shadows and their leader, Rothain, from opening a Demon Gate to raise an army of demons to destroy and take over the world. However, Elijah fails his mission, and as a last resort he uses a magical orb to teleport him back to Castle Dragonhelm, but he loses all memory of his journey.

He is given the idea to find the Key of Light, an item known to open and close magical barriers and portals. This Key has not been seen in over 200 years, so Elijah must venture out once again, this time to find the Key, close the Demon Gate, and defeat Rothain. Along the way, he finds two other characters, William and Azdel.

William, the warrior, join Elijah after helping out with a goblin raid at a mineshaft Will was protecting. He is a patriot and is willing to lay his life on the line for Dragonhelm.

Azdel, an ultra mage, joins Elijah when she learns that he is looking for the Key, an object she has researched before. Azdel is not only a mage, she's also an archeologist, interested in magic history and artifacts.

Together, the three of them will go on a quest to stop Rothain and his cultist followers. They will travel to all three islands of Dragonhelm in search of the Key of Light while fighting through many hardships both with each other and with the many dangers they face.

-World Development-

There are three main islands: Portside, Loose Sand, and Dwarf Mountain.

Portside Island, the most governed and lawful island. This is the home of King Gordon and the Knights of the King’s Order. The environment has grassland plains, forests, mountains in the North, beaches towards the South, and plenty of towns for goods.

Loose Sand Island, the least governed island. As it name suggests, it has a lot of desert areas, you can find many oases usually they’re close to towns, most of the towns are slums that have thieves and other such hostile people, there are mountains towards the Southwest and Southeast, and you can find many ancient ruins and abandoned towns to explore.

Dwarf Mountain Island, given the name, this island is inhabited by dwarves. The environment has a lot of rocky terrain, many caves and mines, and dwarven facilities. Humans inhabit this island as well but are limited to the Southern regions due to dangerous hazards in the mountains.

There are more, smaller isles planned for exploration, side quest storylines, and many, many treasures! (Everyone loves treasure!)

-Gameplay (World Exploration)-

Through out the game, you can come across three major types of areas: Friendly Areas, Dungeons, and Random Areas.

Friendly Areas

Friendly areas can have inns to sleep in, shops to buy and sell items, alchemy stations, crafting areas, and post offices to check if you have mail from other characters or not.

Not all friendly areas will have EVERY shop available. One may have a weapon store while the other doesn't.

Each friendly area has at least one side quest for you to go on.
Mines can sometimes have friendly miners inside and can sell some ores/ingots for you to craft into weapons.

Random Areas

These areas are random because most of the objects/people to interact with are randomized with different outcomes. Sometimes the outcomes are all exactly the same, but for each player the experience can be different.

Dungeons

Most dungeons are unscripted or are places to travel through to get to destinations, forests are a good example of this.
Scripted dungeons usually won’t be able to be entered until the player is supposed to. Exceptions are when you can enter into the first one or two rooms but are blocked by some kind of event or other blockage.
Not all dungeons have a boss battle at the end of it, but all have plenty of treasures! How can you beat that?

-Gameplay (Crafting)-

To craft you must first acquire a recipe book, each with their own recipes and usage of metals. You don’t need to spend money or have a tool with you. (Haven’t decided if I want to rule out tools COMPLETELY just yet.)

-Alchemy-

Alchemy books give you information about how to create potions. The ingredients required are usually in larger quantities due to how common the items can be. Ingredients can be purchased at item shops, potion shops, and traveling merchants.

-Crafting-

Crafting is more complex since there are many different items to craft, armors, weapons, items, and others. As a result, there are more books to find. These books will probably be more common since there are more of them.
I think that’s all that needs covering right now. I may or may not decide to update this when I figure out which items to put in what book and how many books there are.

-Character Bios-

If you are interested in working on this game, please send me a private message here on the RMVXAce website or on my Youtube.
Youtube: http://www.youtube.c...r/Alphablast001

When you message me, post what you’d like to do. (Mapper, eventer, etc.) If you do apply, please give us at least 3 examples of work you’ve done either in a video or set of pictures. For writers, give me a quote from something you’ve written. If you have created a game and have a demo for it (or if it's completed) please send me a link to the forum post.

The only thing we’re NOT looking for right now is a writer for the MAIN story, writers for side quests are available positions.
If you do have other skills that you’d like to contribute to the project, you’re more than welcome to apply for those as well.

A few things to remember before applying (not in any order):
1. We understand you have a life, so do we. There can be times where there is little to no showing of progress.

Looks like it's gaining some form. Just try to be more commited to the maps, I know they may be many, but try not be hasty and take the time you need to make them look good :)

Also, in my opinion, I think you shouldn'te reveal so much detail of the story, just make a synopsis big enough to inform the reader what's the story about and small enough to make him/her curious about it. Otherwise the player will know just what to expect.

One more thing, try not to be so descriptive about the contents of the game, 'cause no one's gonna really read a wall of text (remmember there are a lot of projects in the forums like yours with very much to read so people just start to get tired of reading) just try to stick to the important stuff ;)

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I'll take the detail into consideration and cut it down a bit for future readers.

Yeah, the game is really coming together now. I've been focused on items and skills lately but the maps are going good too. Adding as much detail as possible without making it look like a mess.

Thanks again and stay tuned for more! ^_^

Hey there everyone,

I really don't see myself updating this forum post any time soon. However, that doesn't mean I haven't progressed. I'm doing very well and I'm starting to plan ahead for future towns, dungeons, and other areas. I'm getting the crafting system down and I'm almost done with the recipes. A lot of stuff has been brought to my attention through some friends and I'm improving on that. Some friends are even working on the game with me (mostly story-wise) things are really looking good for the game! I hope all of you are enjoying what I've brought thus far and that you'll enjoy what I'll continue to bring in the future.

I still need people to help out so if you are interested in joining just PM me and we'll have some fun!

From, Alphablast001

Hey everyone, I have some pretty depressing news.

No, my computer is not infected with viruses. My PC is currently damaged, I believe the video card or the screen has been damaged. I get a green digital haze that covers the entire screen. I can still interact with it and use it, but it is to the point of useless.

Because of this, I am putting Blood Shadows development on a temporary hold until this issue is resolved. Everything’s being backed up right now as I type this and hopefully we can get it repaired. I don’t understand what happened and until someone takes a look at it, I won’t use it to prevent further damage.

I’m on my Mac right now and if you know the RPG Maker programs, they don’t have OSX versions. (I wish they did.)

I’ll update all of you when things progress.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. Good night.
