[Eventing] Freerunning / Parkour System

Recommended Posts

RGangsta's Evented Freerunning / Parkour System [ACE]

After playing countless hours of Sleeping Dogs and Assassin's Creed, I got inspired to make a parkour system. It's all evented so it's completely customizable.

Features

Vertical Wall Run

Vertical Wall Run and Jump

Vertical Wall Run and Grab + Hang + Jump

Horizontal Wall Run

Vaulting Over Small Objects (1 tile)

Vaulting Slide Over Small Objects (2 tiles)

Death From Wall Jump

How to Use

Think of Assassin's Creed's High Profile Mode. ;)/>

SHIFT = Run

SPACE = High Profile/Jump

A = Grab

Pressing and holding SHIFT along with a combination of SPACE or A, will give different results.

The system uses two Switches, one to turn on the freerunning mode and the other for the grabbing process. There's a slight tileset edit. I edited a tile's Passage Directions so wall hanging could be possible. Region IDs 1-15 are also used. So there's no need for events on the map. Finally, there is a use of three Variables, the first for Region ID info, the second for Player's X, and the last for Player's Y.

How it Works

Very cool system! Good to learn how to work creatively with Region IDs.

Haha, I loved assasins creed so I thought I'd take a look. Good job :)

Just looking at the eventing, I think you could simplify it further for quicker setting up of maps.

For example, to vault a single object, you're checking using regions 5,6,7,8 and checking player direction. You could just have it set to one region as player direction takes care of the rest.

@BWtR

Thank you. It didn't take too long to create.

Hopefully I can come up with more ideas for evented systems.

@Galv

Thank you, also.

At first, I started out like that but it created a problem. Let's say you choose to run past an obstacle instead of into it, it'll still produce the vault animation, so I decided to use a Region ID for every direction.

Thanks, guys. Glad you guys like it. I wasn't sure anyone would use it since there's not much action in RPGs.

I updated the OP and posted a video that a friend of mine made.

Could I use this system in a commercial project?

It looks very good by the way.

Yes, by all means!

This is a rather useful setup. I assume with a little adjusting it would be possible to set up different aspects of this to different characters, or be slightly disassembled in order to provide things such as a jump or climbing system. Thanks you very much!

This is a great technique! Parkour in RPG Maker VX Ace! I didn't think it was even possible. Thanks you for coming up with it!

Cheers

Once you're know to common events, Region IDs, Variables you can make own Parkour using Set Movement Route.
