Garrett 6 Posted October 19, 2012 Looks like an interesting game but that is a big filesize for an RPGmaker game demo, is there any way you can shorten it up?
jobwaggon 5 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) I know it's big, I'm sorry if that is a problem, but like I said, it's going to be an EPIC game by the time I'm finished XD. I put everything I've worked on in there so far, mostly because I want people to play it and let me know if there is anything wrong with it. I've never made a game before, so I'm not really sure what I should do to make it more of a 'demo' I won't be updating it for a while, so I thought it would be a good idea to give the people as much as I can. EDIT: I shortened it up, and used the encrypting software of the maker, and put it in a .zip file. the demo, which I did shorten down to just a little bit of the actual game that I have made so far, is still 441 MB The ammount of the full game that I've made so far, comes out to a whopping 1.59 GB Edited October 20, 2012 by jobwaggon
jobwaggon 5 Posted October 23, 2012 Ok, so someone must have downloaded the demo by now, right? If anyone had ANY suggestions I'd love to hear them! I'm also currently working on finishing Isolde, I'm scripting out a side quest for a little fun. Also, when I get to Von Krowne, I'm thinking of making an Arena type thing, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do that yet, but I'll figure something out. PyrO17 17 Posted October 23, 2012 i did download it but didn't had the time to play anything. You will get feedback from me
dbchest2 11 Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) i'll queue up a download now. this looks very promising. i'm kind of excited. hope it doesn't disappoint. i can say that i'm immediately disappointed that you don't have a mirror for the download considering i have to create a account with the website just to download the file, but nonetheless...i signed up. Edited October 23, 2012 by dbchest
TaintedSun 3 Posted October 23, 2012 Hm. This definitely seems promising- if it's as good as I hope it is (and it seems like it will be), then the fact it's taking a quarter of an hour to download won't matter much. XD I can't wait!
jobwaggon 5 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) @dbchest: I'm sorry about that, it was the first site I found that gave me enough space to upload my demo, AND my actual game XD most other sites were like 'wtf? why is your file so big!?' so I'm sorry, but that site is actually very good for storing your files if oyu ever need to, they give you 15 GB free storage! @Tainted Sun: Yes, I'm sorry about the largeness and the length it takes, I really wish that I could make it smaller, but don't worry, I have lots of things in store for this, I should probably mention to check around the town very well, I put ssome surprises in, as well as a hidden plot of gold, that can be found in your house, you won't even know you've gotten it unless you check your menu. Also it is just the demo, so there won't be much for you yet, when I finish Isolde I'll put up the beta for people to test play, and again, I've very sorry about the download time, if I find a better site I will be sure to use it, but it will have to be able to hold quite a bit of data. @pyr017: D'aww thank you~ I look forward to it, I implemented your lanters quite a bit! :3 Also! If you're looking for credits, they're in a book that is sold at the book merchant, just to everyone knows that they are indeed in the game ^^ Edited October 24, 2012 by jobwaggon
dbchest2 11 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) yea, i think i jumped the gun on that remark. after queuing the download i looked into 4share a little bit and i've grown a little attached to it. i may start using it as my default file sharing site. anyways, i just finished playing the demo and i generally enjoyed the experience. it's a little reminiscent of the first kingdom hearts and initially had a somewhat cheesy feel (though this didn't affect my desire to continue oddly), but i think you maintained a pretty good pace with your adventuring. the game was a little laggy (i think it was due to all of the lighting enhancements) and you have quite a few aesthetic errors (mapping errors mostly), but the only two things that bugged me initially was the default battle music and how easy it is to win your battle against the shade and all of the beginning monsters. they go down with one hit on the road to wherever you're going, Lol and the shade only sustained two hits before falling. you might want to considering hooking your players in the battle against the shade by really going all out there. show the players what to expect from the battle system and use battle events to richen the experience. you're doing good. keep it up because all in all, i enjoyed playing this and it is a project i would follow should i continue to see updates and more gameplay released. good job so far. TaintedSun 3 Posted October 24, 2012 Having played through the first five minutes of it- I only had that much time before my grandma picked me up to take me shopping- I have to say I rather like it. The battle against the shade was, as stated, a little weak- while it took me about ten rounds of battle or so (I'd picked the thief, so that certainly affected things a bit), I literally never got hurt. His attacks kept missing. There were a few spelling errors here and there, as well, alongside some misplaced commas, but those are all easily fixed and I don't think they really detracted from the experience (after all, I'm just a huge nitpick about spelling; I start yelling at myself if I find any mistakes after I've sent/posted something). The music and sound effects that I heard were really nice, and I'm just wondering- how did you get your crystals to keep moving without pausing whenever you hit enter? I may have done something wrong in my eventing, as the ones I threw together always stopped when I continued on with the dialogue in a rather obvious manner. jobwaggon 5 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) dbchest: Yea, the system is very laggy, I wish I knew of a way to speed that up, but I'm just too tattatched to the lighting to let it go XD And about the music, what do you find to be wrong with it, I like it but if it's annoying other people I'd like to know what about it is annoying so I can choose better music. And the first battle was meant to be easy, mainly becuase I really didn't want the player to loose and have to do it over and over again... But I suppose I could go in and make it a bit harder, I just didn't want you to loose and have to keep doing it over XD, but sure, so I'll toughen that up. Mapping? Could you please tell me where? I don't want anyone walking through walls or ending up in the wrong shop or anything XD. Tainted Sun: I know there are spelling errors, could you please tell me where, I've done so much I always loose track when I go to fix them, and sometimes I pick one but not another. And you picked the theif? Let me know how you feel about that class, I usually pick a battle mage, it's my favorite one that I designed, And my mom who is my main beta tester always picks the assassin, so I'm not sure how good the theif is. And the enemies in the demo are meant to be easy, but if you want I could toughen them up, there IS however a wishing well on the way to the camp, if you've found it, the little side path that leads to it is home to a very hard, but rare enemy, so if you walk around there enough I'm sure you will run into it ;3 I'll update the demo shortly so that the next testers will be more likely to return to me for the full game once I post it XD BTW About the crystals, I set them to Paralelle process and I put them on the stepping animation. jobwaggon 5 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry about the double post but I uploaded the improved demo, I made sure to give the enemies you can encounter better stats, so that it's more of a challenge, let me know if it's too difficult. Also, you mentioned battle events? What are those, I'm not sure if I know how to use them, but once I do, I'll be sure to try some of them out. Edited October 25, 2012 by jobwaggon
dbchest2 11 Posted October 25, 2012 more importantly than making the battle more "difficult" persay, the intro of a game needs to hook the players. using battle events is a great way to add a unique angle to your game (which is so important in the beginning of games). when revising your encounter with the shade, you don't necessarily need to make him any more difficult, rather have the battle last a little longer (give him more health to withstand more punishment) and use battle events to force interractions between the player and the shade throughout their first altercation. you know, maybe he can reveal a little information about what he plans to do with the magic he stole, or maybe he'll just weep about how he underestimated the strength of your player...or something, anything. in your "troops" section you will notice an event section where you have set events to occur within a battle. generally, it won't follow the same guidelines as event processing on the map, but once you play around with it you'll get the hang of it. you'll find yourself using mostly event commands from "event page 3", under the battle section. have a whirl and see what you can come up with. TaintedSun 3 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) I'll go through it a bit more thoroughly, see what pointers I can give you for both spelling (and to be honest, I actually only picked up two through the time I played it, far as I can remember) and for the thief- and it occurs to me that maybe part of the reason it was missing so much was because of the fact I picked agility over anything else. And psh, gosh, the crystals were ridiculously simple. XD I'd actually tried that before- except I'd chosen 'walking animation' instead of... Anyways, thanks! I'm about to start playing the game again right now. EDIT: Okay, list of typos as I find them- in the mayor's house, there's a guy (that's the mayor, correct?) by the piano who says 'vegitables' instead of 'vegetables' in the morning, while the maid in the afternoon says 'recepies.' In the menu screen itself, 'thief' is rendered as 'theif.' 'Recipies' should just be 'recipes.' In the witch's salon, the title says 'with' instead of 'witch.' Then, right at the very beginning, when explaining the controls, you put 'avtivate' instead of 'activate'- then, right near the end, at 'And, end the game.' That comma shouldn't be there. Annnd that's about it for the typos that I saw! From what I saw, the thief did fairly well- certainly better than my partner, at the very least. Was slightly miffed that her name changed back to Kalyn at the menu screen- I rather liked naming her Yorun. Anyways, the beginning part, right before you fight the shade, seemed a little rush; Iunno if that's because it's a demo or what, though. I have to say, I really liked this demo. It had a sort of soft feel to it thanks to the lighting system you used, it was nicely mapped (in my opinion, anyways), and there were a bunch of cute things I found. All in all, I can't wait until the full version comes out! Edited October 25, 2012 by TaintedSun
jobwaggon 5 Posted October 26, 2012 Ok, I'm not going to do spelling updates for the demo, but I will fix them in the actual game, I'm also goign to add in some battle events for the shade.
jobwaggon 5 Posted October 31, 2012 Ok I have finnally finished Isolde, so I'm posting the beta version soon, I fixed the typos, I think anyway, XD. And I think I also found out what was wrong with the naming thing, It should be fixed. and I extended the Dark Intruder battle even more :3 Expect a Beta download link very soon once I load it onto the interwebs XD PS Be on the look out for your NEW COMPANION! jobwaggon 5 Posted November 1, 2012 Sorry about the double post, but I finnally got the Beta Link up, feel free to download it! Actually, please download it! I need testers and people who can help me find any flaws the game might have (:
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 3, 2012 Ok, fixed the Beta Link, really it's more like Alpha testing at this point. I'm workign on some NPCs for Isolde to make it more realistic before I move onto Von Krowne. And has anyone seen a good item weight script yet?
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 15, 2012 Alright, I'm workign on makeing more monsters for the Arena in Von Krowne, as well as a fun little side quest for the city. I'm hoping to make an update by the end of my thanksgiving break, so be on the look out PS if you're going to cast a null vote in the survey, why even bother? Answer it! I'm not asking for fun, I really need to have your opinions!
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 17, 2012 Wow, thanks for the input ^^ I've officially made almost 300 monsters, and I'm using a script that should make their stats a little higher. I'm adding in a pretty nice side quest for Von Krowne. as well as working on the stadium and a option to gamble on the fights. I'll also be adding some more Harvestables as well.
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 21, 2012 Going to be without internet for a few days, hopefully I will be able to finish up the finishing touches on the monsters so I can finish the arena, and get to work on the rest of Von Krowne
Pringlesguy 8 Posted November 25, 2012 Well I'm demoing this one, hearing is has a KH feel gives me high hopes bruh.
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 25, 2012 Thanks Pringles. BTW No Von Krowne, but tomorrow I will puload an update, just to fix some small things in Isolde. I added a few interesting things I want to try out in Von Krowne, and I still haven't finished the monsters completely, so until I do, Von Krowne is on hold, so I can work on the arena, I want it to be as close to perfect as I can get before I let you guys try it.
jobwaggon 5 Posted November 26, 2012 PS if anyone can tell me what makes it feel Like KH please let me know, I love the game, or the ones I've played, but I'm not seeing the resemblance, I only played Days, and BBS
Pringlesguy 8 Posted November 26, 2012 (edited) activate in one of the first lines is spelled wrong lol other than that I adore this games soundtrack, the look, the character creation, not so much the battle system but wow Edited November 26, 2012 by Pringlesguy
