Screenshot Critique Thread: Read Rules Before Posting!

Recommended Posts

 @rgangsta: It does my heart game to see your awesome titles :3

btw how do you get that emoticon? xD

I got it from the GDU chat.

To stay on topic, I'll critique Main's screenshot.

1) The door to the kitchen should be behind the counter, as stated before by Killo.

2) The opening from the sitting area to the counter should be more open. What you should do it pout a pillar in the middle.

3) Eliminate those middle tables.

@Maindric: Your screenshot and pixelated fast food has succeeded in making me extremely hungry. Other than recolouring the tables on the bottom screen, however, and the...random sink in the middle of the kitchen floor...it's great! Oh, and if you think random food on the tables in your average fast food shop is unrealistic, then you've probably never worked at a burger joint before. =)

Me, I finally got done working on the title for my game and the silhouettes of the first 5 main characters. Silhouettes are going to be a common theme in my game. I should just pick up a pencil, stop being lazy, and draw some actual character portraits...anyway, I think this could use sprucing up, but I'm out of ideas. Yep, 13 hours into the new year, and I'm out of ideas already. *pops some sad confetti*

@Maindric: I like the restaurant map a lot. Much better than my first maps.

Okay, due to the amazing human being who chooses to go by rgangsta, I was able to make this updated title screen.

They appear in various different places.

@MasterPixel: I like it. Maybe you could make the walls look older?

Hmm, I've got some dirt tiles I think, so I'll test it out!

Edit- Tested it and this is what it looks like:

YES, now it looks ancient! Nice, nice.

Don't want to be impolite, but the moderators will you say it anyway: You have forgotten to criticise other screens. Just sayin' because I forget it sometimes myself.

@Master-Pixel Looks much better now. I like the cracked walls really

helps it look ancient.

Anyhow My map I decided to try my hand at rtp.

I usually parallax and I just thought to myself not all

maps need to be parallax so here is my attempt

As well as this parallax Bedroom

@Master-Pixel You need to comment on a previous screenshot before posting your own.

Also for future reference can we avoid the "chatty" posts between members. A reply that just says thanks, although is polite, is no neccessary. Like the post instead

 Also, there is no harm in adding additional critique on your post. If you have already left critique on a previous post quote it so that I know you have given some feedback.

I gave feedback on his screens too, so that I would avoid a pointless post like you said, but oh well.

@Joey: The transition at the top of the waterfall looks like it's just cut off, so you need splash events there too. Other than that the first map is great, except for that confused tree on the middle left :P

The bedroom is, nice, but the bookshelf on the counter in the top right doesn't look right.

@joey the forest is nice for the most part, though the tree growing out of stone seems off.

The pixel room is nice, but the chairs int he lower left seem really out of place, they don't really belong, they don't surround a table or anything they could all be pointing towards, and I don't know about you, but I dont' have 'sitting chairs' in a corner of my room just facing each other.

@Master-Pixel: Regarding the shadow tiles, I am not sure but I think they might be able to be walked through, so r remember to make sure you can't go though walls or anything! I actually got the idea to add some shadows to some of my random dungeons too:

The second image also has me disabling the tile shadows. I am still not entirely sure if I should leave them, get rid of them, or make it optional.

Hmm maybe you can increase the tint a bit? It is hard to see the water I think. :)

Here is a few ones from me. I've posted them before but could be fun to get more feedback.

@Joey The forest is rather nice, though the bedroom seems a tad empty on the right side. Other than that, it's quite good.

@KilloZapit The overall shadows I feel are really well done, honestly nothing negative I can point out about both your screens. :)

@Nicke All of your screens are pretty good; they all have the abandoned area feel to 'em. Oh, and you forgot an e in abandoned in the first screen.

This is an area that I decided to replace the Etherean Academy with. The ghost acts as the guard/manager of the arena, and you'll get to fight various difficult creatures within the large crater, called the "Pantheon". :)

@Maindric: The use of wall tiles over doorways is a little troublesome, unless you are using overlays or something. Honestly it kind of strikes me as a little visually confusing anyway

@Jonnie91

My apologies, I will be sure not to so in the future.

@Joey

I really like those shelves with the bread stacked on them, did you make them, or get them in a pack somewhere?

@KilloZapit

How would you recommend fixing that?  Any other method I use, just does not seem to look right to me.. I try to just leave on open space, but then I get the issue of the wall is taking up the entire area or something just nor flowing right.  I could maybe put a door there, but I have no side doors that would flow right..

I wish I had a good solution but the RTP isn't really designed for doorways. :/
