Screenshot Critique Thread: Read Rules Before Posting!

@ erichermit

Thank you for the feedback. I only made it so wide to accommodate the scrolling effect. I'd rather not reduce the width, but I'll reduce the vertical size of the elevator to only a couple of squares - maybe that will help with the excessive size issue.

Again, I appreciate your input!

@Galv: Wow, that's just awesome, wish I had just a quarter of your Photoshop skills. How long did you work on that map?

@SpookyMothman: Thanks, unfortunately Ill have to prepare for exams early next year, so I probably won't have a demo before April at the earliest.

@Tsarmina: Yeah, that's me, thanks. (o^_^o)

@Topic: The last important system is done, now its time to put everything together.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Ha, I forgot about the putting the door on there... still haven't picked my favorite door tile so I need to get on that! I'm glad most of shadows look alright, though I will probably end up making that triangular shadow at the floor to make sure everything looks okay.

@marierock13: The elevator remind me of one I've seen before in a Lufia. I'll pust a screen of right in here since I doubt most people have played that game... I think the size of your elevator is pretty good though, especially for a 2d tile based game and not a 3d one.

@Lihinel: It's an interesting system you have there. It's been awhile since I've played any games where you can interact so much with the game world, and it seems especially interesting for an RPG. I don't know much about the game your are working on, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this is going to be utilized.

@ Galv - that's really impressive work, I must say. It must be wonderful to have that sort of digital art talent. Is the entire game going to be done in that style?

Thanks - Yep, the whole game will be in that style - going for a bright cartoony feel.

You did really well on your logo for a first try. And I love that window skin you are using.

@Galv: Wow, that's just awesome, wish I had just a quarter of your Photoshop skills. How long did you work on that map?

I didn't time myself. A very long time. Haha.

I really like your interactive system you have there - would be fun making puzzles with that!

@ZombieBear- I like the tile choice, especially the rug in front of the counter. Since there are no windows and the only light source is candlelight I would suggest tinting the room a shade darker

A school library I put together. Diddn't want to clutter the map but if anything could be added please let me know.

@Mirage88: It's a beautiful map, the bookcases are higher than the walls, though (doesn't bother me much, but I thought I'd atleast mention it.)

@Mirage88: I'd suggest moving those plants a little more to the corner; should be an easy fix as this is parallaxed. :)

@Lihinel: That is nice amount of abilities. But for the love of god, DO NOT add that reveal skill or the player needs to have at hands all the time. Don't want no valuables to go to waste? Just like in the Batman series, you had to have detective vision on constantly to get all the secrets and it kinda ruined some of the visuals. Plus I'd be annoyed if you had to go to menu to change simple ability just to get by some stupid pillar, how about have a quick menu acces to those abilities?

@TheHarmp: Thanks :) Diddn't notice that shouldn't be too hard to tweak.

@Tsarmina: Yeah I agree it would look better...... I added them after I made the map cause I suddenly realised there was a lack of greenery in the room :P

@Lihinel I love your skills reminds me of Golden Sun, which was a really fun game. I wonder what sort of puzzles if any, are you going to create using these skills?

@ mirage88

The library is gorgeous, but the rug near the entrance really doesn't fit well. Perhaps a thin vertical runner instead? I'm not sure why, but the horizontal overlap behind the wall tiles is rather jarring.

I adore the bookcases, though, and the NPC sprites are also very well-suited color-wise.

I stayed up a bit working on a logo for my game's primary corporation, which is "Hammer Corporation".

Here's the logo itself.

And here it is in the game, on a custom menu made by Galv.

Opinions? Suggestions? This graphic art newbie appreciates all feedback.

@Marie - Not bad. Anvils look like they are an awkward shape to incorporate into a logo. Have you played with any ideas incorporating hammers? It's the Hammer Corporation after all :)

@marie - I'd shift the target thing a little more to the right. It looks a bit off centre to me.

I have not been playing Limbo, I promise.

I've been working on making menus for my game that's using GTBS.  So I added in some of the note variables from the GTBS into the menus.

SzL26ZR.png

But I feel that the right side is a bit empty.  Can't think of anything more to place except maybe a preview of the animation under the shape box.  Or a portrait of the current actor.  I would also like to add 3 more variables since there is space for 3 more.

@Quasi: I would love to see a portrait there. ^-^ Maybe a head-to-thigh view to fit the narrow space.

@Quasi I'd like to preface this by saying that I'm a minimalist. I think you have enough on that menu already. Just space it out more so what you have currently takes up the whole screen.

If you really want to add something, think about adding an elemental graphic in the lower right. Eg. Flames for fire, snowflakes for cold, etc.

@Gorlami

It looks beautiful :x I wish I could fault the map, but I really can't :x

@Quasi:

I too would quite like to see a portrait there :) the animation however, would look pretty cool as well...either or, is a brilliant idea!

@Topic (seeing as this is the new trend now adays :P)

SNOO9AN.png

Not much of an interesting map, as such more of me making part of a map that is going to be created later on :x this little joy took me quite a few hours to make! :x I'm wayy to outta practice! Gotta get back into full on parallaxing again (haven't needed to do it since I got VX Ace :x) Got way to lazy :P

AWWWW IT'S SUCH A CUTE HOUSE

I think that second set of blue windows is tucked a little too far under the window--not enough to be physically incorrect, but just a little disturbing. Even from the angled top-down view I don't think it would push under that much. That being said, the first set of blue windows would have to be pushed down too ;) How are you planning to get that door to open?

It's gonna be a parallax map :D So I may end up fading to black for the transfer either that or add a parallax door open :D

@Jonnie: That house is awesome. Can you teach me?

And besides, after playing around with sketchup for so long, it turns out that creating a 3D model for EVERY map is just nog feasible and I switched to classic parallax mapping instead.

All content in this map is hand-made by me. This map will show up in the introduction of the game, with the first battle (and tutorial). I use Gary's pixel movement script together with Hime's collision maps. The cliff on the upper left corner will be used for story purposes.

@Jonnie91 that house looks really cool.

@Quasi WOAH! Awesome Menu changes, Quasi.

@Gorlami this map looks cool, and it has a 2D cam xD but it also looks a bit scary.

Well. I have a screenshot of a map I created recently for my RPG. It may look like a city, but it's just a tribe, a village, or something. And by the way, there's no technollogy in there:

Welcome, to the village/tribe of Midwild:

@Laura

There is very little I can teach :D It's simply just working until it looks right to me, once that's done I ask others to see whether they think it's pretty or not :D

Um, Jonnie. After I posted here, I've just remembered that I had to do that, so I edited my topic, leaving feedback to 3 other people's screenshots.

@Zoroar: I'm a little confused on what those side-squares are. Judging from the front/back walls, I'd say they're like...battlements, however putting them to the side isn't exactly what you need to do. I'd suggest just leaving them on top and coloring in shadows inbetween to suggest the form of depth.
